England Set for Rotation Policy.

England Set for Rotation Policy.

Giles Clarke, the new ECB chairman, says that England are heading for a rotation policy that will allow more cricket to be played without burning out the leading stars.

"We're heading towards rotation, more specialists and different sides put out in different forms of the game and against different types of opposition," Clarke said in the January issue of The Wisden Cricketer magazine.

Not too sure about what he's saying but i gather he is saying that they will try and pick different teams for ODIs 20/20s and Tests. Surely it sounds like common sense to all of us? Simply you pick the best players for the job.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

Its a good idea, because 20/20 specialists have a chance, but for the players like KP, our star players, they're brilliant in all forms. Do we leave them out just for the sake of rotation?

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

Good idea in my opinion. India has a very different team in all the three forms as well. Currently only Dhoni and Harbhajan have been regular members of the team for all the three forms.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

We just need more resting time between tours and less cricket crammed in the domestic season.Far too much is played in English domestic cricket.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

I disagree Dikon, i actually thing that its just done in a way which is too much, we should have T20 at the end of the season, if there is too much cricket then get rid of the 50 over , it isnt vital to county cricketers, and internation players play enough 50over stuff in a calander anyways.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

Drop the 50 over?So we would get county cricketers coming through to the one day set up with no experience of playing full 50 over cricket at not experience of using the power plays. If any comp needs dropping it's the 40 over comp which is useless. They county championship should be a three tier affair, teams at the bottom of division two are shocking the likes of Leictershire, Glamorgan just aren't producing the goods in 4 day cricket.Having the three tiers would produce more intense cricket between competitive sides.

I agree;it should be planned as per the cricketing schedule during the calendar year.So the chances of injury happening to players also is less and more players will get an opportunity to play.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

As much as they complain about too much cricket I can't see any players happy with the rotation idea. Someone might take their place. :eek:hmy:

Welcome to sC :)

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

good point newlands, but for those players who have cemented their spots should be allowed rests. for example gilly rested during the last chappell-hadlee trophy game to prepare for the tests and there was no chance he was going to lose his place to brad haddin

They need those 50 over games so that they can get experience so that when they play 50 overs at international level there well prepared.

Re: England Set for Rotation Policy.

To be honest, 40ov cricket isn't so different to 50ov cricket. Between 20-30 overs in 50ov cricket its more "keep the wickets," kind of cricket, whereas 40ov doesn't have that boring part.

I'm a firm believer that if you can play 40ov well, then 50ov is even easier to get accustomed to!

Powerplays are the main area of difference. If the players are moaning they play too much cricket then the ECB should just scrap the 40 over format or at least bulk the 40 to 50 over cricket. The one day structure should be the same as the International set up so captains and players realise what's needed in terms of tactics and saving bowlers for the end etc.
