Fizzy Drinks

Re: Fizzy Drinks

Wow! "Gout surge blamed on sweet drinks".

Apparently, "Sugary drinks have been blamed for a surge in cases of the painful joint disease gout.

Men who consume two or more sugary soft drinks a day have an 85% higher risk of gout compared with those who drink less than one a month, a study suggests."

Gout is one of the most common forms of arthritis or inflammation of a joint. It most commonly affects the first metatarsophalangeal joint, but can affect any joint. Gout usually starts as an acute attack that often comes on overnight. Within 12-24 hours there is usually severe pain and swelling in the joint.

An interesting study to say the least. People who consume two or more sugary drinks a day would likely tend to live more unhealthy lives than those who don't. Therefore, it would be unreasonable to say from the study even that fizzy drinks relate at all to gout.

You would think so but I have come across many, otherwise, very healthy, sporty people who drink far more than two sugary drinks a day. Of course, this includes a lot of 'recovery' drinks!

Re: Fizzy Drinks

My mother-in-law told my son today that if you put a piece of raw meat in a glass of coca cola for 24 hours it a virtually disappears?

Personally I gave up all those fizzy drinks back in 1969 when I was about 9 years old realising that 2 shillings (10p) for a can of fizzy water full of tooth rotting sugar wasn't a good deal no matter how sweet or good it tasted and that was before anyone started on about it made you fat as well.

But again, being objective, someone in your profession (which I remember reading is in sports physiotherapy), would be more likely to meet sporty people and furthermore suggest recovery drinks. And to think, I have to apply this 'reliability' crap in History sourcework.

I'm sure they did this on mythbusters, not sure what the outcome was though.

edit:

Cola is able to dissolve steak.

busted

The cola just gave the steak a soft, pasty consistency.
