Groups revealed for 2009 Twenty20

Although the last tournament has only just ended the ICC has released the groups the 2009 competition to be held in England.

As there have been few games played in this format to date, the groups for the 2009 event will be based on the finishing positions in the 2007 tournament

Group A
India (1)
Bangladesh (8)
Zimbabwe (9)

Group B
Pakistan (2)
England (7)
Associate 1 (10)

Group C
Australia (3)
Sri Lanka (6)
West Indies (11)

Group D
New Zealand (4)
South Africa (5)
Associate 2 (12)

I think that's a nice spread although teams like England have been given a boost as they are group with an associate.

lol India is in the easiest group. I think they've done ok for the rest of the groups.

Why do they make the groups according to the last world cup? They should arrange the groups so that there are more exciting matches.

I guess it makes sense to base it off the 2007 standings but it if they had waited for a further 12/8 months then they could have probably based them of the international standings.

Why have they announced these so early? Seems strange, will they also announce the groups for the next world cup?

Talk about forward planninh :eek:!
