HELP!! WITH PACE

I am a 15 year old right arm fast bowler. I have got a similar, not exact action of Dale Steyn. I am really struggling for pace, I have read Ian Ponts book and tried everything and i can not just get my pace up. I have tried driving my hip and that was no succes, ive tried keeping my non bowling arm up untill my foot is planted that hasnt worked either. Ive read everything and i connot just get fast. PLEASE HELP!!

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

Hi, Auzayr

Pace can be down to a lot things not just the things that people like Ian highlight.

How is your general level of fitness? Also, height and build plays a part of it.

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

Totally correct.

Fast bowling is a series of movements that need to be honed in order to get the most from it.

Not only do you need the core strength but also flexibility, explosive power and a strong will to succeed.

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

Well I am 5 Foot 11 and I weigh 10 Stone, I am quiet slim in figure. I go to gym every week, I do Pilates atleast 3 days in a week plus other exercises. I would regard my fitness as good. So plz help

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

Nothing really happend, I coudnt feel no pace, however, i could feel me driving my back foot forward

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

The Reason because I cannot spin the ball, However, I can swing the ball when im bowling fast and i have more control over fast bowling than i do with spin bowling.

To reach your goals you need to address your fitness and your nutrition but I think we shall leave the latter for now :D

Take a look at http://ericcressey.blogspot.com/2007/05/cricket-training-for-speed-strength.html

You need to address your core so please read through http://www.simplycricket.net/what-the-heck-is-core-training-all-about-anyway-t440.30.html

Then have a look at David's bodyweight programme http://www.harrowdrive.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/harrowdrive_turbulence_training_4-week_bww.pdf

I know it is a lot to read but it will help you get up to speed [sorry, another pun not intended ]

Re: HELP!! WITH PACE

Here's a tip for you. Most people bowl with their right arm being followed by their right leg, ie. their right leg gets lazy. Try making sure that your right arm and right leg go through the bowling action TOGETHER. In your follow thru, get your upper body parallel with the ground and at right angles with your legs.

So in summary, brake with your left leg/hip, bowl with the whole of the right side of your body going through together and follow through so you are parallel to the ground, with your shoulder behind the ball.
