India Test squad: Virat Kohli (capt), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj

Interesting that no Rohit Sharma or Ishant Sharma with both being omitted from the Indian touring squad in December-January both due, I believe, to injury. Good news tho for KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav who have been returned. Excitement for young uncapped quick M. Siraj who has been called-up for the four-match series as a likely replacement for Ishant who picked up an injury in the IPL. Indian cricket's governing body the BCCI has said in a statement they will "continue to monitor the progress" of Rohit & Ishant. So there is still a chance both will join the tour at some stage.

Kannaur Lokesh Rahul will be looking to improve on his mediocre form last time India toured Australia. In three Test matches back in 2018 he scored a paltry 57 runs @11.5 with 44 his top score. Obviously the BCCI has confidence in a man who averages @46 in FC Ranji Trophy cricket with almost 6000 runs .. and a top score of 337.

Conversely Cheteshwar Pujara was India's rock at the top of the order with an series defining 521 @74 from his four matches. The Australian attack threw everything at the veteran batsman but he refused to give away his wicket. His 340 ball marathon 193 in Sydney was the driver behind a 622 total which ensured India could not lose the match while his resilient 106 in Melbourne in partnerships with Kohli and Rohit knocked the stuffing out of Australia. He batted all day for what must go down as one of the slowest but most important centuries of his career. That exceptional show of patience together with Bumrahs haul of wickets almost certainly sealed Australia's fate and gave India a rare victory on our shores.
