Intercontinental Cup, Namibia v UAE Dec 8-11

UAE finally makes their first appearance in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. This is Namibia's final match, and they're already out of contention for the final. Namibia, though has looked tough in recent South African domestic competition.

Current standings:
Code:
Group A P WO WI D LI LO T Points
Scotland 2 1 - 1 - - - 29
Ireland 2 1 - 1 - - - 23
Namibia 2 - - - - 2 - 0
United Arab Emirates 0 - - - - - - 0

Both Scotland and Ireland got 20 points from Namibia. UAE doesn't have to, but if they can't, it doesn't seem likely that they'll be able to challenge the Scots or the Irish for first place.

Day 1 has gone completely in favor of the Namibians.

Namiba won the toss and chose to field, and that turned out to be an excellent decision because their bowlers ripped through the UAE batting line-up. UAE was all out for 96 after just 38 overs!

In reply, Namibia have reached 251-7 at stumps on Day 1.
Louis Burger is leading the way with 86 not out.

Obviously, Namibia have already clinch the 6 first innings points, and appear well on their way to taking the full 20 for the match. It's going to take a massive effort from UAE to put up a competitive target in the second innings.

and there i was thinking UAE were going to well. 96 in 38 overs is... well bad! :)

add to that, Namibia had a pretty decent day.

After the first 2 matches in the group, I figured Namibia had last place all wrapped up. Nope, I was wrong. If this is any indication, expect Ireland and Scotland to annihilate UAE when they play in January and February.

I know it's a long ways off and a different form of the game, but this bodes well for Namibia in the WCL Div 2 tournament next November. They should be heavy favorites to win that now.
