IPL Game 52 - Kolkata Knight Riders vs Kings XI Punjab at Kolkata

Another dead rubber game, Kolkata can't make the finals while Punjab need a big win to displace Rajasthan at the top of the ladder.

Kolkata Knight Riders XI: 1 Salman Butt, 2 *Sourav Ganguly, 3 David Hussey, 4 Debabrata Das, 5 Aakash Chopra, 6 Laxmi Shukla, 7 +Wriddhiman Saha, 8 Ajantha Mendis, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Ashok Dinda.

Kings XI Punjab: 1 James Hopes, 2 Shaun Marsh, 3 *Yuvraj Singh, 4 +Kumar Sangakkara, 5 Mahela Jayawardene, 6 Piyush Chawla, 7 Tanmay Srivastava, 8 Ramesh Powar, 9 Irfan Pathan, 10 VRV Singh, 11 Sreesanth.

Punjab won the toss and are batting first. Mendis is making his IPL Twenty20 debut for the Knight Riders. Hrips the ball in an unorthodox way. Gave the West Indies great troubles in his one-day debut.

Kings XI Punjab made 6/174 off their 20 overs. Sangakkara top scored with 67, Marsh's 40 was good enough for second best while Yuvraj Singh made 27.

Umar Gul was far and away Kolkata's best bowler, he took 4/23 from his four overs. Mendis was the only other Kolkata bowler to take a wicket.

In reply, Kolkata scored 7/175, winning the game with two balls to spare. Ganguly top scored for the Knirhgt Riders with 86 not out and it was fitting that he hit the winning runs. Umar Gul played a late cameo with 24 from only 11 balls. Salman Butt also made 24.

Sreesanth, VRV Singh and Chawla all got two wickets for Chennai.

A good win to finish off the tournament for Kolkata, they cannot make the finals from here while Chennai blew a massive chance to score a home semifinal spot.

Umar Gul was Man of the Match.
