Is there any....?

can anyone remember them footballs that were attached to strings that attached to a belt on the waist so you didn't need chase after the ball when you miskicked it ..... i was wondering are there any cricket balls like this that u can practice bwlin with yourself like tying it round your wrist

Re: Is there any....?

Nothing like it for bowling (as far as I know) but you can get something similar for batting. Can't see it taking much work to adapt.

I would advise caution though as I have a feeling it could lead to an injury somehow. You may be better off getting some cheap netting and putting it just behind the stumps, so that it catches the ball for you.

Re: Is there any....?

I don't reckon this would be a great idea. Firstly a lead attached to the ball would effect the flight etc - so it loses credibility as a training tool. Secondly it could be dangerous, the lead would have to be quite long or elastic - both options being potentially injurious to my mind :)

I've used the netting option at home - strung up one of those golf chipping nets behind the stumps - worked quite well until the net started falling apart.

Re: Is there any....?

I would agree with the above. When younger we made a ball on a bungee type thing as we thought it would help us play pace. All I can say is that the ball travelled at about 140mph and almost killed the kid batting. In hindsight, we may have used to much elastic and also pulled it back a bit too far but it kinds of shows that its not a great idea at best.

Am I right in thinking that the first time you tried it out there was someone standing "in the sights"
 I love the way the stuff you tried when you were you were younger seems a bit "insane" the older you get :)

Re: Is there any....?

it's a combustion launching potato cannon.... thats what the lighter fuel he had in his hand was for.... and the ball came out a bit black and burned for a tennis ball

Re: Is there any....?

I was trying to work out what the cannister was, it looked like lighter fuel but I was thinking it was way too dangerous.
