Is this the second coming of Kerry Packer?

Seems two billionaires (one American, one Indian) want to pick up where packer left off. Sure there will be plenty of opinions on this.

IT SOUNDS like Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket all over again. Except this time it's two billionaires - one a fifth-generation Texan based in the Caribbean and the other an Indian who made his fortune in the grain trade - who are threatening to revolutionise cricket.

Antigua-based American Allen Stanford and Indian Subhash Chandra want to capitalise on the moneymaking potential of the Twenty20 game. Both are on the verge of establishing separate Twenty20 competitions backed by massive cash funds, and neither cares if the cricket establishment approves of their plans.​

Australian World Cup players are aware of Stanford's plan to stage an international Twenty20 carnival in the West Indies next year. In the build-up to their match against England today, all the talk in the Australian dressing room is about the tournament, including speculation that prizemoney could be between $US10 million and $US20 million.

The winners of the current World Cup, by comparison, stand to win $US2.5 million.

let's see what the ICC does with these non-sanctioned events. I can't imagine them letting it go ahead with not getting involved somehow (either pro or con) as both events are sure to make some $.

as for Stanford, i stil lwish he would get USA involved somehow.
