Leg Press

I was just wondering if the holding the sitting leg press machine at a high weight for about three seconds would be a good exercise to do during the season, to help with the bracing of the front leg.

Re: Leg Press

no. You need to train it with your feet on the floor supporting your bodyweight.

The leg press is a inferior exercise for sports.

Re: Leg Press

The key with any excercise is this: do the movements at your joints reflect 'real life' movements or not?

With the leg press you are sitting down extending and flexing your leg, isolating your quad muscles. This never happens in real life.

Additionally the heavy weight puts your knee and back under a lot more pressure than, say, a squat or lunge.

Therefore it's not ideal for cricketers.

That's not to say it has no use. If you wish to isolate and improve quad strength you could use it, but remember it's not very functional.

I would prefer to see bowlers doing squat, lunge and deadlift variations, especially single leg work.
