Loopy: "We can win the double"
Loopy_cam has today made the bold statement that the Nairobi Nuggets are a better team this season than they were last season. The Nuggets were the dominant team in the comp in the first season of the new and improved BCFCL and ended the year by winning the test premiership. Loopy_cam has stated, however, that despite losing a couple of key players in the off-season, the boys from Nairobi will once again be the team to beat. This is what he had to say:
"We were good last year. We were really good. It's not just any team who wins the premiership. They have to be well drilled and very highly skilled. We were and we got the reward of the test premiership.
There was a dissapointment about last season however. We really believed that we deserved to win the one-day premiership as well. After a slowish start in that comp we were the form team in the second half of the year but had an off couple of days in the semis and you just can't do that in the important games. To their credit, the Magic played some good cricket in those games and in particular Qinz with the bat and Mousey with the ball. We were devastated after going out of the one-day comp in straight sets and it really made us all the more motivated to win the test comp. We partied hard after that win but there was still a sense that we had underachieved.
I really think that we have put ourselves in the best possible position to not only go back to back in the longer form of the game, but to win the double. Although we have lost a few key players from last years side with Benny and ONB gone and jimmy looking to be on the way out, we've made some impressive signings. New batsman EddieSmith looked really good in the pre-season hit-a-round as did new bowler roylandroos. We've also signed good fizz who has been really impressive in training.
Last year was a season of unknown at the beginning. We didn't know how good the competition were or how we compared to them. This year we have a greater knowledge with it being the second season and I really think this year's side is as good, if not better than last years. We will begin the season aiming to top both ladders and win the double. Those goals may change throughout the season but if you aren't in it to win it then there is really no point being in it at all."
The Nairobi Nuggets will play their first game of the season against the new guys, Chittagong, this week.
