New Cricket Stadium Planned In Rwanda

There was a very uplifting piece in the UK's Guardian last week about the Rwanda Cricket Association building a new cricket stadium as an upgrade to the sole other ground where the damaged AstroTurf nets and pitches have become too dangerous to use. There's a beautiful symbolism about the old ground, as it is within the College where 4000 people were killed in the 1994 genocide, but then became the start of a transforming and nationally-unifying cricketing journey in 2002 that has put Rwandan cricket on the map.

The Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation was formed in 2011 to raise funds for the stadium and facilities. It's great because this isn't a farfetched pipe-dream -- already, more than £335,000 has been raised, and the first phase of the stadium is set to be completed this April, on the 20th anniversary of the 1994 College killings.

The site is set up to take donations, and it really is a wonderful cause. Whether you give or not, at least have a read and be inspired by what's going on in Rwanda.
