Re: No cricket...

OH how I weep for those souls who have not discovered the beauty of (ice) hockey. It's the big playoff push over here, and I am watching an average of 4 games a night to see if my boys make the playoffs and if they do, who they will be playing first up. Mix that with the opening of the baseball season, basketball, curling, and soon soccer, and I'm good.

maybe I should do some schoolwork as well...

ugh, Tigers..... :p

go White Sox!

i went to the Sox game today. 33 degrees F outside, windchill must have dropped it to about 20. only lasted until the 4th.

Re: No cricket...

so it was a bit cold for you all?

Tigers had a win though, beating Toronto 10-9. A close one! We lost in 10 innings the other day, we got one back!

i thought i was going to freeze

i saw the Tigers were up 9-0 and then all of a sudden they had won 10-9.

Re: No cricket...

Tigers|@

BLUE JAYS@| !!!

That was a sad game. Now they're being wussy and cancelling today's game because of a bit of snow. Wah, wah, wah, I want my baseball! Put on your long sleeves and get out there.

how much snow we talking here?

there were some flurries at Sox Park yesterday

Re: No cricket...

I do not know, since I'm in Toronto and the game's in Detroit :D

The forecast was for 2C (-5C windchill) and "some snow". I guess, long term, I'm happy, because Toronto's pitcher was going to be Gustavo Chacin who has had elbow problems, and it probably would be dangerous for him to go in extreme cold. Short term, though, I WANT BASEBALL!

yeah, i'm so ready for baseball

almost done reading "Baseball by the Numbers. Why everything you know about baseball is wrong" good book, I recommend it. i'm not a big stats guy (as in I almost failed my stats class in college) but I can understand the book.

Re: No cricket...

Ooh, who is that by?

I read Moneyball last year, and became a 'stats guy' (though I also struggled with it in school). Now all I do is talk about OPS, QERA, VORP, and other cool-sounding acronyms.

it's not by one person, but is authored by "Baseball Prospectus"

Re: No cricket...

it was a good come back by the Blue-Jays yesterday, not quite good enough :)

something i don't get to see a lot of down here is baseball magazines and books, which is a bit sad, understandable though.

We all love good stats though don't we? average, strike rates, era, rbi's etc. etc. :D

gotta love 'em

Hear that the Sox front office has cut a deal to buy all the boxes of unsold
WC tickets piled up to the ceiling in Dehrings office for $1.99. Will use
them to stoke the clubhouse stove and should have enough fuel for
the next two seasons.

Re: No cricket...

Just another flaw in this BS WC format. Fans wanna see cricket and some
teams have gone a full week without playing a match! If a team in the
NBA, MLB playoffs went a week without playing the fans would riot. Should
have TWO super eight matches every day. Teams would only have one
rest day between matches but that's plenty. Only ones who are
benefiting from this BS format are the pushing-40 Aussies who have plenty of
time to catch up on their naps between games.
