Have a read of this - Fitness for Cricket (it's written for the Australian women's team and a pro level but it's appropriate for us all as we can pick bits and pieces to suit our needs).

An idea of what you could be doing is below (courtesy of highperformancecricket.

So here is a guide to your preseason working on a 6 to 8 week plan.

Weeks 1 and 2
PREPARE

* Clean out your cricket bag, start fresh and check the state of shoes, bats, leg-guards and other equipment. Scrub, air out and/or replace your old gear.

* Plan and set goals for just the preseason in relation to last season and areas you want to improve. Do this with your coach or captain if possible.

* Seek some professional advice from an expert or private coach, even if it is just one lesson. You would be surprised how the smallest piece of technique advice combined with your hard work can improve your cricket.

* Get moving with long walks, sprints, stretching, some simple abdominal exercises and push-ups or seek professional cricket-specific fitness advice. You can put your season back a month if you go too hard too early without any fitness preparation.

* Get yourself slowly back into the swing of things by having a few light bowls, throws and/or hits of the cricket ball.

Weeks 3 and 4
PRACTICE

This is the fun period if you love to work hard with volume, volume, volume.

* Catch as many catches as you can.

* Throw and bowl as many balls as you can (Up to three times a week for safety purposes).

* Hit as many balls as you can.

* Keep within the basics, set goals for every session and have good attention to detail using good technique.

* Get out of your comfort zone and TRY new ideas but remember don’t get frustrated if your training sessions are not always great. This is all part of the learning process.

* Switch your fitness work to more agility and sprints, most actions in cricket involve power, agility and sprints.

Week 5 and 6
PERFORM

* Cricket is a mentally challenging game so practice or start using routines, before practise after practice and before and after each delivery or piece of fielding.

* Tactically start challenging the opposing players in nets, fielding and centre-wickets.

* Have as many centre-wicket or practice games during this period to make sure you perform during this period for your confidence to hit game 1 running.

* Remember the preseason is important to feel confident that you have done all the work possible to be ready for the first game and for the rest of the season and its good fun.

Re: Pre season Training

The key thing is too look at where you are and where you want to be. You need to work out your goals for the coming season and then tailor a plan so you have a chance to meet them.

For example, you want to bowl faster. To do that you're going to need to work on your core fitness, flexibility, movement and strength as well as technique. So you need to look at developing a plan to meet those needs, which also meets your 'body' needs.
