Pura Cup - Queensland vs Tasmania at the Gabba

Pura Cup cricket is underway with this match being the first one of the season.

Tasmania won the toss and sent Queensland in to bat. So far, that decision has been well justified with the Tigers bowling Queensland out for just 196. Clinton Perren was the only major contributor with 82. James Hopes got to 32, Stevens made 29 and Matthew Hayden reached 24.

Brendan Drew and Dan Marsh picked up 3/25 and 3/23 respectively with Hilfenhaus and Griffith picking up two wickets each.

So far, Tasmania have batted well with Travis Paine the only man out so far for 34. Micheal Di Venuto and Michael Bevan are at the crease on 29 and 7 respectively.

Tasmania are 1/70 after 21 overs.

A lot better effort from the Tigers so far, could they be a force in Pura Cup cricket this season?

May have something to do with having guys like Watson, Symonds and Kasprowicz and having to play guys like Jurgenson, Rimmington, Doran and Stevens.

Anyway Queensland eventually slumped to 184, the last wicket stand of Doran and Rimmington putting on 34. Tassie surprisingly looked in trouble in their chase for 47 losing three quick wickets early on. Paine made 2, Bevan made 1 and Birt made a duck. But Di Venuto gave the crowd, and the Tasmanian faithful something to cheer about, blasting 6 fours and a six on the way to 35 from 27 to get the Tigers over the line by 7 wickets.

When was the last time Queensland got thrashed like this at home to Tasmania? That was a real back to the 1980's performance by Queensland!
