Rankin and O'Brien for ICL?
The Irish Cricket Union (ICU) is wary of Boyd Rankin and Niall O'Brien joining the Indian Cricket League, but admits they have very little control over what the players do. Rankin is contracted to Derbyshire and O'Brien to Northamptonshire, although both players have yet to have full discussions with their counties.
Warren Deutrom, the ICU chief executive, has spoken to both players but said details are still rather sketchy. "We are still not quite sure of the full picture," he told Cricinfo, "but the players aren't contracted by us. However, we are keen for them to be careful about taking part in unsanctioned tournaments.
"The key issue for us [the ICU] is that the players are available for Ireland matches and any build-up that goes with them. We are especially focussed on the 12-18 month build-up period to the 2009 World Cup qualifiers." [/quote:012bd]

I wonder if this means that they've already signed or if the ICU is just being cautious to the possibility of them joining. Both those players are essential to the future of Irish cricket, perhaps a jaunt with top-class players like Lara and Inzamam might give them some valuable experience.
