Run-Up

I have been searching the forum for any info on this. I wanna find out the run up lengths of international pace bowlers.
Mine use to be 22 strides (well that was too long), and now it's either 16 or 17. I don't put too much effort into my action, but lining up my body and directing my momentum and strength into one direction gives me lots of pace and bounce, and control with very little effort.

And do you think its better to run in fast or bouncy and rhythmic.
And one about michael holding: how fast was he? I have seen his run up just rhythmic and slow.

And how should one start off with the run up. Walking? On the toes? (Like a sprinter?)

Re: Run-Up

I've always thought that run-ups are a very individual thing. Some people will come tearing in from 30 yards, others will amble in from 2 yards.

Personal choice really and the best run up will be the one that gets you to crease with the minimum of fuss but in the right position to bowl.

Mas got it right it's whatever suits you. As a fast bowler i think if you're tinkering with your action and whatnot you need to find out (if pace is what you want) if a fast run up will help your momentum going into the action therefore delivering the ball faster, some people however don't need a fast runup to generate lots of pace - Look at Simon Jones for example. Whereas Brett Lee really tears in, i know he bowls faster than Jones but i would say he puts more work in as Jones ambles in and explodes to bowl at 85mph+
