Running Out Rules

Hi guys,

I played a game of cricket today and there was a very dodgy decision and im hoping you can help. My team were batting, and they were running. The opposing fielder through the ball at the bowlers stumps, however it hit a bag in front of the stumps and dislodged a bale. My team were furious that the umpire gave it out, considering the ball could quite easily of missed the stumps. What is the offical ruling on this?
