Re: South Africa in India

This is going to be a highly competetive series I think. I seriously hope we dont get dead pitches that we got for the home series against Pakistan.

Re: South Africa in India

I am really looking forward to this series. It will be interesting to see how Dale Steyn plays. Unfortunately, I wont be able to watch the action live since the Indian Government doesn't consider Test matches to be an event of any national importance.

Re: South Africa in India

It'll be Steyn's toughest test thus far this season. India have the stellar batting lineup and SA are looking like they are getting the balance in their bowling right. Will be interesting to see how the young attack fare particularly Harris. Also how Gary Kirsten does against his homeland since he's played with most of the SA team. India are probably slight favourites but I'll be rooting for SA then Tendulkar! :D

Re: South Africa in India

India have the upper hand because of the spin department but it depends on the kind of pitches we get. If they are as lifeless as the pitches in the India vs Pakistan series were then I think South Africa will have the upper hand because India are without Zaheer and Ishant.

They did show the India vs Pakistan series on DD. Its a shame if they consider that series was more important than this one. It was boring as hell.

I was hoping that India would bat first. India did well with a second string bowling lineup in Australia so I hope they can do the same here.

Re: South Africa in India

Not a bad demonstration of play by the South Africans at all. 304/4, pretty good I'd say. Only Harbhajan and Kumble were able to provide breakthroughs as the fast bowling line seemed to be lacking something. I was kind of disappointed at RP's performance as I think that he's one of the greatest fast bowlers in India. Sreesanth was kind of inconsistent and the bowling line up really didn't have any punch to it with only four full time bowlers and Sehwag as a fifth bowler. McKenzie played well for his 94, Amla is unbeaten on 85 so things are looking pretty good for South Africa right now.

Re: South Africa in India

Pity McKenzie couldn't go on to score a century, he's done well during the last few games since coming back into the test team. Hopefully Amla can go on to make a big score. SA will probably want to get as close to 500 as possible in the first innings.

Re: South Africa in India

Dale Steyn will have to look to use his angled in-outswinger as his main weapon when India bat because the pitch is far too slow for any sort of bouncer/short of a length orientated bowling. Sreesanth bowled from 135-140kph and even he could barely get it to carry through to Dhoni at above knee height.

Re: South Africa in India

After the first few overs I knew that South Africa would make a big score. India dont have firepower in bowling at flat tracks. I think if India batted first they would have made a same score.

Re: South Africa in India

Good innings first up by SA. Its a pity about Amla getting runout as he was playing really well. If he and Boucher had stayed together for another hour, I think they would have got about 600 but 540 is a good score on what is a flat track. Nice cameo by Morkel as well. Will be interesting to see how SA's bowlers do on this pitch, they've got 25 overs until the close of play.

Re: South Africa in India

India are off to a brisk start. I hope we get a opening partnership similar to South Africa's because no matter if the pitch is flat Indians will be under pressure because of the huge score that SA have made.
I am not really surprised by the score that SA have made. Its common to see a such 1st innings totals in India these days.

Re: South Africa in India

Good reply by India. Sehwag off to a quick start again. The bowlers are going to have to work hard in order to get wickets here.

Re: South Africa in India

I think the guy who wrote the bulletin for cricinfo went overboard in criticizing India. South Africa didn't have much luck with the ball either. So far the wicket hasn't provided assistance to either spinners or pacers. Harbhajan took a five-for but most of his wickets were tail enders. It will be interesting to see if the ball starts spinning tomorrow.

Re: South Africa in India

Gives a chance for Sehwag to cement his place in the team again. At the moment, it almost looks like India have found an opening partnership! :p

Almost, but Jaffer has shown himself pretty damn poor away from India, with an average of just 31.77 and six ducks!

Re: South Africa in India

Yeah, it was a little tongue in cheek, especially as AB normally complains that India are 0-1 before the game has even started.

Re: South Africa in India

i am not happy that jaffer is in the team....gambhir should have got the chance because he did very well in australia and jaffer was a total failure..

Re: South Africa in India

100 up for India! Great start for the day

I hope Jaffer gets a 100 because if he cant score on this flat track after getting a good start then he should not be in the team.

Re: South Africa in India

Great work done by the openers today especially Sehwag. Sehwag is approaching his 14th 100. It should be great for his confidence. Jaffer has played a good supporting role as well. But this just shows that this is a help youself pitch for batsmen. I know its too early to say this but unless there is a major collapse I think this match is heading for a draw.
