The Newspapers in South Africa have said that in October 2009 a new Southern IPL based tournament has been agreed upon. Players will be from New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and India. Teams will be based at a South African cricket venue which they will rent from the local cricket body..

Really, we have the IPL, ICL a new P20 in England, APL in America.. and then the international. Talk about an overkill..

IPL just hasnt been the same since been played in India
the crickets good
but the atmosphere and crowds are nothing like they are in India

All tournaments will need to be marketed correctly, else the whole thing will crash. There is already a saturation of cricket and the average fan will begin to turn off before long.

The long term plan must have some cohesion between boards and ultimately some exclusivity. Seeing the same players plying their trade in 3 different competitions (for eaxmple) will not draw the crowds over a long term period.

The Reality is that 20 Over cricket is the ultimate cash cow. It is making money for certain boards. The mere fact the ICC T20 world Cup is in the next year indicates how much over kill is possible.

The fact is that you are right, exclusivity should be the number one priority and also putting something back except cash to the national boards is imperative.
