Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Sri Lanka 2/93, Sangakkara 32*

Arafat get Warnapura for 59 half an hour before lunch.

I've got my money with SL for this match.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

What a day for the Lankans. Sangakkara departed for 70 with the score on 177 but it was all Sri Lanka from there as Jaywardene and Samaraweera combined for an unbeaten partnership of 229 runs from only 51.5 overs. Jayawardene is 136 not out and Samaraweera has almost caught him with 130 from just 155 balls faced.

They are 3/406 at stumps, Arafat, Gul and Kaneria are the wicket-takers on what seems to be a slab of airport runway concrete. Sohail Khan has figures of 0/106 from only 16 overs.

Pakistan haven't played test cricket for 14 months and it showed today, Jayawardene was dropped three times but the pitch hasn't helped and looks to be really benign. Sri Lanka can press on and are a chance to reach 600 by the middle of the second session.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

At the moment, I can't see the point of Sri Lanka batting on for much longer. The pitch looks flat and lifeless and they need as much time as possible to get 20 wickets.

600 and then declare would be my option.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Jayawardene and now Samaraweera both have 200. 3/567, partnership is worth 390 and they're about 20 runs away from the record 4th wicket partnership.

Above and beyond that now as they move onto 420 or so.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Sri Lanka declared at 7/644, Jayawardene scored 240 and Samaraweera 231. Danish Kaneria finished with the best bowling figures of 3/170.

Pakistan have started their reply and are 0/2. To save this game they'll need to bat for the rest of today, all of tomorrow and probably carry through to at least lunch on day four. If they can do that and score at the rate of what Sri Lanka made their runs, they'll be around 587 by then. However, they will find it tough if they don't get a good start.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Khurram Manzoor is out for 27 after almost two and a half hours of hard work with the introduction of Mendis working beautifully. Pakistan are 2/85, still 559 runs behind. Younis Khan is 25 and Shoaib Malik is on four. Salman Butt was out for 23 yesterday to Murali.

Pakistan are battikng very slowly too as we're in the middle of the 37th over. It's only a matter of time before they are bowled out and if they are, they will be a fair way behind Sri Lanka.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Khan has to go for Lara's record. Flat wicket and 306 not out, has to be in with a shout.

Match is a draw, wicket is so flat that it makes a mockery of the game.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Sri Lanka have tried pretty much everything but no-one can remove Younis Khan. Younis batted for all of day four and is 306 not out at stumps, an innings which has last 575 balls and included 27 fours and 4 sixes.

Pakistan are 5/574 from 202 overs at stumps on day four, trailing by only 70 runs. Shoaib Malik was run out late on day three for 56. Misbah-ul-Haq made 42 and Faisal Iqbal 57 as they provided good support for Younis. Kamran Akmal came to the crease after the fall of Iqbal and is 27 not out.

Dilhara Fernando joined the wicket-taking list today as did Mehela Jayawardene who brought himself onto to bowl, claiming the wicket of Iqbal LBW. It was only his fifth test wicket. Even Kumar Sangakkara got a bowl, having only bowled one over previously in test cricket. Tillekeratne Dilshan also got a trundle as did debutant Paranavitana. Suprisingly, Thilan Samaraweera did not get the opportunity to bowl despite having 348 first-class wickets at the impressive average of 23.36. A puzzling decision that one.

Anyway this game is going to be a draw which is a shame as it could have been an even contest on paper had the pitch helped the bowlers a bit more. Younis is also a chance to break Brian Lara's test record highest score of 400 not out should he get through the early part of tomorrow unscathed. It's really the only thing of interest left in this match which has really turned into merely batting practice and a case of which Sri Lanka batters can bowl the ball.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Pakistan declared at 6/765. Younis Khan was bowled by Dilhara Fernando for 313 but Kamran Akmal went on to make 158 not out with Yasir Arafat making 50 not out before the declaration.

Fernando finished with 2/128, the only multiple wicket-taker for Sri Lanka.

In reply, Sri Lanka reached 5/144 before both captains called the game off. Sri Lanka were in early trouble with both openers going cheaply before Sangakkara scored 65 to make sure there wouldn't be a miraculous last day result. Samaraweera finished on 24 not out.

Danish Kaneria and Umar Gul took two wickets with Paranavitana being run out by Yasir Arafat.

A draw in the end but not before some interesting final days play. Pakistan will leave the match with some good confidence after being in trouble following Sri Lanka's innings. Younis looks in great touch and Kamran Akmal has found some form.

Younis Khan was Man of the Match.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Second test starts in 15 minutes. Both teams have made one change, Pakistan have brought in Mohammad Talha to make his debut whilst the debutant from the last game Sohail Khan has been dropped. Chaminda Vaas is unavailable for this match for Sri Lanka so Thilan Thushara has been brought in.

Pakistan won the toss and will bowl first.

Pakistan XI: Khurram Manzoor, Salman Butt, *Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Faisal Iqbal, +Kamran Akmal, Yasir Arafat, Mohammad Talha, Umar Gul, Danish Kaneria

Sri Lanka XI: BSM Warnapura, NT Paranavitana, KC Sangakkara, *DPMD Jayawardene, TM Dilshan, TT Samaraweera, +HAPW Jayawardene, T Thushara, CRD Fernando, BAW Mendis, M Muralitharan

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Yet another lifeless pitch. Sri Lanka are 3/300, Sangakkara and Samaraweera have done the all the scoring, making 104 not out and 122 not out respectively. Warnapura and Paranavitana were both out before ten overs were bowled with Jayawardene going for 30 a while later leaving Sri Lanka in a bit of trouble at 3/96. But Sangakkara and Samaraweera came to the rescue and have batted very well since then.

Umar Gul has been once again the only Pakistan bowler to do anything, taking all three wickets so far.

Could be another draw on the cards here if Pakistan can't break through.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

Haha, just as I say that Yasir Arafat gets Sangakkara edging behind to Kamran Akmal.

4/300, Dilshan is in.

Re: Sri Lanka in Pakistan

4/317 at stumps, bad light cutting the last few overs out of play. Samaraweera is 133 not out with Dilshan on three. A score of 500 or more is looking like another possibility already so unless Pakistan can do some damage with the ball then we'll have another high scoring game on our hands.
