Super Eights - Bangladesh vs Ireland

This game will play a big part in who finsihes last in the Super Eight stage of the World Cup. Both teams will be hungry to avoid the wooden spoon with Ireland wanting to get on the board.

The pitch is expected to offer quite a bit of bounce for the quicks and the spinners later on. It should play well though and with some application we could see some good scoring today. Add to that, plenty of sun with a few clouds and we have the perfect conditions for cricket.

Andre Botha returns for Ireland with Shahadat Hossain replacing the injured Syed Rasel in the Bangladesh team.

Ireland are batting pretty well here. Haven't lost a wicket yet with Poterfield and Bray looking solid despite Bray scoring rather slowly.

Bangaldesh have been average so far, dropped a couple of catches but they don't look very threatening at all.

Porterfield is not out on 43 with Bray still there on 18.

Ireland are 0/70 in the 19th over.

Bray run out by Saqibul Hasan after Porterfield tries to notch his 50. Pretty shoddy effort by Ireland, ordinary running and the run probably wasn't there.

And Morgan, the new bastmen is dropped in the deep by Shahadat Hossain almost immediately. Catch was completely misjudged and the ball sailed over his head despite his best efforts to make the catch.

Ireland are 1/97 after 27 overs. They are going well but the run-rate is dropping slightly. They'll need to pick it up a bit from here.

Porterfield is 52 not out.

Oops! Now Morgan is run-out for 5 by Shahadat Hossain who makes up for his earlier blunder.

Ireland playing silly cricket here, they don't need to take non-existent runs.

2/101 in the 29th over, Porterfield on 53.

Niall O'Brien falls to Saqibul Hasan's left-arm orthodox spinners. That's the first wicket that the bowlers have got, they previously didn't look like getting one.

Just when the run-rate was picking up, the Irish lose a wicket. O'Brien departs for 10 and they've decided to call drinks.

3/128 in the 34th over. Porterfield on 68.

Ireland must press on from here.

I just got home from a 24-hour movie marathon.

I can't believe more people are excited by this match!!

Ireland were 243-7
Bangladesh is 138-8 after 33.4 overs.



Ireland will beat Bangladesh today, picking up their second win over a test team, and will gain a spot on the official ODI rankings table because of it!

Brilliant win by Ireland, they not only beat Bangladesh, they thrashed them!!

This win puts Ireland on the Official ODI Rankings table with a rating and also a ranking. Great stuff by the Irish.

But this win also highlights how poor Bangladesh truly are. I think their wins against India and South Africa were flukey. They should have belted Ireland last night if they really wanted some credibility from other countries. But, they failed and just when people were starting to take notice, they put in a poor effort like this.

Bangladesh don't seem to have the concentration to last the tournament, or to last the whole game, or something along those lines.

They produce some stunning cricket, then it disappears down the toilet and they get beaten by Ireland.

It is the same in Test Cricket: they play really well for 2 days, then play badly for a day then they've lost the match.
