Warne quits Hampshire

Shane Warne has quit Hampshire, opting to finish his eight-year career at the English county club. Family committments, IPL participation and increasing business interests have forced Warne to end his first-class career at the age of 38.

Warne made the decision reluctantly but it seems his interests have become too far advanced to continue playing for the English club and could not continue to devote 100% to the team which resides at The Rose Bowl.

It is expected that Dimitri Mascarenhas will succeed Warne as Hampshire captain.

Warne retires from first class cricket

Low-key finish to his first-class career. Warne has too many interests now and playing for Hampshire just isn't an option anymore. There's also the fact that his children live in Australia and I don't think he'll want to be away from them for large portions of the year. Despite being 38, Warne is good enough to play into his 40's, he is still playing well, even at the age he is. It's a shame he didn't end it all back in Australia playing for Victoria or even St. Kilda which is his district club team. I'm sure many Australians would have loved to have farewelled Warney from first-class cricket back at home.

This will severely dent Hampshire's hopes of winning the County Championship as well as the Pro40 title. Warne was the captain and will be a huge loss, they will struggle to fill his place in the line-up with a spinner of his calibre.
