What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I was just wondering why people pick a certain cricket bat (or kit) over others?

Is it down to word of mouth, the design or the professional players that endorse the company?

What would make you try a new brand - competitive price, good name, quality of kit or something else.

For myself, it's purely down to the bat. I'm not fussed by the name or maker, just how well the bat will go once out in the middle. I'll admit that I do tend to sway towards well known brands when choosing kit but then again they are the ones normally on offer.

Have a think and let me know, as I'm interested in finding out what other people think and how they select which kit they buy.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

im not afraid of trying new brands. quality and the price are the main criteria for me. ive purchased a bat from an unknown brand mainly becuase the quality seemed to be the same but it was cheaper.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

It's a mixture for me, when I was younger I always wanted the same bat as my heroes nowadays I just want a good bat.

Brand is less important but I do want I nice looking bat, good finish and something that plays well. Quality I guess is the key.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I want a bat i can trust. It may sound stupid but i want one that i know better than myself, its possible ;). I also want a bat that will last me more than one season, regardless of the fact that i like a new bat every year. Stan mentioned looks but in all honesty, do they matter? I'd be quite happy with one thats blank, the way it looks wont bring you 200 more runs, although some bats look top when you see the ball rising and the batsmen swats it away.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I did say that how the bat plays is important but for me it's the whole package. Blank bats are cool but why not jazz it up a bit with some colour and life.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I think most people look for brands that the international players use. It is the best way to publicity because people like to get the same bat as their heros. I think if the quality is good then it matters the most but a new brand need advertisement.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

To be honest I look at the price before all else. I just can't spend £200 plus on a bat, no matter how good it may be.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

quality first and brand name second because i think people tend to go for the more popular brands because more people own them so there are more opinions on them

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

same here first quality second brands but it should be a reputed 1 so that the finish will be good

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I first look at the quality if it seems good enough then I think about the price. Brand name doesn't matter too much to me. If its affordable and of high quality then I wouldnt mind buying from a unknown brand. If its a reputable brand then thats a plus but not a necessity for me.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I tend to go for the brands I like (2 or 3 of them) or have used before and had good quality from. I then compare them to each other in terms of the quality and price range. My decision is then made on the better quality ones out of the lot. I'll also look at other brands and if I think something's a bargain in terms of price vs quality, I'll take it. I tend to stick to the brands which I know have given me good service for a good price but am open to other options provided they can offer me similar or better quality for a similar price. I know its a bit of a long-winded answer but thats the process I normally take. ;)

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

I'm going to be brutally honest here. The first thing i look at when buying a bat is looks. I know it's the last thing you should really look at, but i want a bat that's stylish and just looks generally nice. If i then find a bat i like the look of, i'll try and find some reviews and then ultimately go to my local store and give it a go, check it feels good, because ultimately, if the nicest looking bat in the world plays awfully, there's no point. So the first thing i look at is looks, but performance is ultimately the decision maker.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

i think many people are influenced by looks. the first thing you will notice about a product is how it looks. so looks are very important if you want the product to sell even though they have no impact on performance. looks will get the attention of the customer but to retain it the quality must be good too.

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

first thing i look is at looks to tell you the truth and then if it doesnt look nice i probably wouldnt pick it up and the quality for price if its good quality for that price then i would buy it

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

its about comfort with pads and gloves etc, i'm a puma person for that kit..... but i have a pair of aero pads which look weird and everyone comments on them as they are not the norm. but they are so comfy!

Bats is all about the wood for me!

Re: What do you look for in a cricket brand?

Quite an opropriate question for me. As I`ve just bought all my gear from new, getting back into cricket after some considerable time. I decided that I wanted everything to match, all the gear no idea (thats me). Slazenger won the day for me looks, price, and International endorsments. Bag, pads, gloves, helmet bat, the works!! But then I started checking out more obscure firms and have just bought a Bulldog Growler bat, not used it yet, but it feels like the one for me. This bat is my pride and joy already but I do like the idea of tradition and quality so next time Warsop will be on my wishlist.

I try not to be shallow but you do want to look at least moderately good out there. Also, kit that looks decent tends to be decent in terms that it's made with the latest fibres\padding so it should help to reduce injuries. I know that's not a given but it does make some sense (at least to me ).

Other than that I probably want a brand that has a good reputation, has been out there for a little while and one that has a good customer service - that is very important to me. Whilst I don't want to pay too much if I can help it, if I have to then I want to know that its worth it.

I've good some very good things about the Bulldog bat and they seem to be a good price as well.

When my daughter brings the camera/computer lead home I will try and post some pictures. Looks and price are great but I can`t really recomend them as I haven`t used one yet. To be fair my recomendation would be akin to my Great Aunt Mable test driving the BMW M3, may never be able to test it properly!!!
