Will The Indian Bowlers Deliver V/s Australia?

In my opinion, the Indian bowlers have a good chance, if they field Irfan Pathan as an all rounder. Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Anil Kumble, and Harbhajan Singh, are all top notch performers. The Australian pitches, are a lottery. they have good carry, and decent pace. If the ball does not deviate off the pitch, the bowler always thinks he has a good chance, but this is so only against batsmen alien to Aussie batting conditions. The ball starts misbehaving on the third day, sometimes. In these conditions, if the ball seams, the bowler is a handful. The more quality bowlers you field, the more lottery tickets you possess, if you are in the opposition. Also, the bowlers are reasonably fresh, if you field five or more bowlers. I refer to "more", because Sehwag is also a good spinner, when he bowls. I hope India fields five bowlers. I base my above opinion, on the memory of the famous test win of India, at Adelaide.

I remember Irfan Pathan made an incredible test debut to his career in Australia few years back. This was during the "Steve Waugh retirement" series. A clean bowled wicket he took of a big name batsman (I forget who) in crucial circumstances was so sweet, I just love remembering the sight of that. I don't think India ended up winning that match in the end, it was a draw. But that's irrelevant.

The basic capability for Indian bowling isn't lacking in my opinion. What concerns me is their commitment, focus and discipline over long stretches. For example, in the Bangalore test against Pakistan 1st inning, Indian bowling left a lot to be desired. The gave away too many extras. They didn't display the killer mentality which would be required against an opponent like Australia (who're far far better than the pathetic Pakistan, mind you).

I'm glad they aren't including Munaf Patel on this tour. I haven't been happy with his lack of commitment, particularly his poor fielding discipline.

You must be referring to Adam Gilchrist's wicket at Sydney. An atmosphere must be created in India, where the game is not played for what it will give you, but because of interest in, and for the sake of the game. At the school level, there should be as much interest in the school team, as there is in the national team. The same with inter state domestic cricket. I am sure, that the state level selectors, select their respective state teams, with great care. Once selected, the team members must be given opportunity to make good their promise.
