Winter eating

We, in the southern hemisphere are coming up to Winter now, and obviously the diet changes a bit. We seem to eat more too.
We drink more tea/coffee to keep warm.
Less water as its cold! etc
I'll be starting to eat oats and porridge in the mornings and I was wondering where they rank as far as calories go? I base my diet on calorie intake...and although these are relatively healthy breakfasts...are they big on calories?
Also, any ideas on any nice winter snacks? I know England have chilly winters...you must be pro's at beating the cold!
Thanks :D

Re: Winter eating

Chilly Summers too

The calorie content depends on the brand (what else is added) and how much you have.

100g of porridge oats has approximately 368.

Try to include some green, herb and fruit tea to replace water (if you can get it).

Vegetable soup is fantastic for keeping you warm. You can add whatever vegetables you can get hold of and its mobile; you can put it in a flask.

Re: Winter eating

I loooooovvvveeee winter :) It's time to bulk up hehe

The side of the box will give you the nutritional facts of the porridge you're eating. It will be high in carbs, which is perfect for a breakfast option. Just remember to have protein with every meal. If you post your calorie intake target i can give you a run own of what to eat. I spent 6 months of non stop research on bodybuilding when i got serious about it and have since lost 35kg and cut 12% of my bodyfat. It is a science indeed

Agreed.

I would add too that you are best getting all you carbs, protein and fats from natural sources where possible.

Also make sure you get a plenty of veg, some fruit and some 'healthy' fats (nuts, olive oil, avocado, oily fish and the like). Focus on omega 3's.

Re: Winter eating

Man Aussie Boy, you think you've got it tough, at least you like hot foods. It'll be 5C and I'll be drinking an ice chocolate, refusing to go for that saner option :p

Spot on, I cheat and use Fish Oil capsules because i hate fish! Also, get yourself some natural peanut butter, full of protein and good fats and yummy!!

Re: Winter eating

Thanks guys!
Wow Liz, nearly 400calories sounds alot but at least oats are filling!
Madbunny... I'm aiming at about 1800calories a day. Thats divided into 5 meals...3 being 450 cal, and the other 2 around 225 for in-between snacks.
