World Cricket League Prediction Game

Hopefully there will be interest in this. I propose a predictions competition for the upcoming World Cricket League tournament in Kenya. Predict things like the winner of each match, leading scorer/wickettaker in each match, etc. If there's interest, I'll work out the details and post them up here soon. Post if you're in!

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

I'll give it a go, count me in

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

Well that's one. Plus me. Plus I imagine Cleazer will be in, and hopefully some other wonderful people. So here's my proposed scoring system.

Game Outcome:
  • Predict winner: 5 points
  • Predict Margin within 30 runs: 2 point
  • Predict Margin within 20 runs: 4 points
  • Predict Margin within 10 runs: 6 points
  • Predict margin exactly: 20 points
  • Predict "Lock of the Day": 15 points (or -5 points)

Statistics:
  • Predict top scorer: 5 points
  • Predict top score within 10 runs: 3 points
  • Predict top wicket taker: 5 points
  • Predict number of wickets taken: 3 points

So for each match, you submit:
  • Winner
  • Winning Margin*
  • "Lock of the Day"**
  • Top Scorer and Runs
  • Top Wicket Taker and Wickets taken

*winning margin is to be given as a number of runs; should the team batting 2nd win, I will use D/L tables to calculate their score over a full 50 overs.
**each day you may make on of your teams a "lock of the day" which scores you more points if correct, but also risks losing points if incorrect.

If anyone has any revisions to suggest, I'm open to them, but we are only about 9 overs from match 1 so they'd have to hurry. May also need to hurry to get in your predictions for match 1. In any case, I think this will be fun.

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

I presume that last bit should be "top wicket taker and wickets", right?

Kenya v Bermuda
Winner - Kenya
Winning Margin* - 65 runs
"Lock of the Day"** - Kenya
Top Scorer and Runs - Ravi Shah, 81 runs
Top Wicket Taker and Wickets - Saleem Mukuddem, 3 wickets

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

May as well get my choices in for round 1:

Kenya to win by 20 runs (lock of the day)
Steve Tikolo will top-score with 65 runs
Dwayne Leverock will take 3 wickets.

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

I would join in fella's. But have no clue who's playing or who's a batter and so on !!

Okay wilbix, how many runs did Kenya win by today? Something well in excess of 200 I would think.

The guys we picked for top scorer didn't even bat! At least SouthSwans picked someone from Kenya as the top wicket-taker.

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

I've got a class in 20 minutes. I'll work out the calculations after that, by 3:00 Toronto time.

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

Missed the first prediction, I guess I'll have to wait for the next game

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

Well I'm tabulating scores right now, and it doesn't look like any of us did all too well. You'll have a chance to catch up easily.

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

Believe it or not, but according to Duckworth/Lewis Kenya would have won by a whopping 455 runs. They had only used 23.3% of their resources at the point they went over the Bermudian score.

That being said, here are the standings after Day 1:
Code:
Prev Win Mgn Bat Run Bwl Wkt TOTAL
Cleazer 0 15 0 0 3 0 3 21
Wilbix 0 15 0 0 3 0 3 21
Younginator 0 15 0 0 3 0 0 18
SouthSwans 0 15 0 0 0 0 3 18
marlyminks 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Day 2 Fixtures
Canada v Netherlands
Scotland v Ireland

Get your predictions in now for the second day's play. We are naming a top scorer and wicket-taker for each match, but you can only choose ONE Lock of the Day match each day (of course, it is optional, so you don't have to).

Re: World Cricket League Prediction Game

Ok, I don't want to miss this one, so i'm getting mine in early.
