Subbies Thread

Brighton had 15 players from Hatch playing 1's and 2's last weekend. 5 ex Hatch players left this year to play Premier. Brighton takes Hatch pretty seriously and in finals for 4th time in 5 years. Local Breakers made U18CV GF with4 ex BCC Hatch players.

We actually have the exact same number of 15 across the two top XI's with 8 in the 1st's. Brighton are extremely strong, we play them in a practice match each year and this year is their best team in those years in my opinion and will back them to go all the way.

The only people on here knocking Hatch are VTCA people, Scratch, Southern Sledge, and Rat'n'bat. Don't be concerned, Hatch will stay as long as there isn't a merger which I doubt will happen. Even once the dividend goes, even though CV have removed it officially from the CV Pathway, it will stay for the exact reasons you outlined.

BTW well said Westland, VTCA made their thoughts on the CV proposal and their chat with VSDCA public but Subbies chose to keep it quiet. Think Subbies could be a bit more forthcoming.
Not knocking it, as I said I enjoyed it when I played it, I just don't think its relevant these days. Subbies are very quiet, maybe Phil O'Meara should come out and say something.

Thanks. Also 9 in the 3's this week and 10 if you count the coach who captains that side. This year not quite as strong in batting but very good attack.

Interesting to see Lee Weiss in the twos for Moorabbin, He hasn't set the world on fire in the 1sts , but should be playing 1sts?

Something is going on here. Reports are that he was dropped not as a result of form. Even though he hasn't been great this year he is in their best XI. Hasn't helped that Pradeep has been ordinary.

Back to cricket. Caulfield a mile ahead in SE. Expect Malvern to be major threat. East sides Oakleigh, Bayswater and BoxHill all solid but not nearly up to top South sides. Would currently rate Ormond at 3. Brighton not having a good season was very competitive against top East sides. Expect top 4 to be Caulfield, Malvern, Ormond and Oakleigh. Other 2 finalists Box Hill and Noble Park. Any predictions for NW. Can anyone beat Plenty Valley before they head back to Premier ? Tip for final Caulfield v Malvern.

A mile ahead? Not sure about that!
Malvern and Ormond better than Oakleigh?

I assume you have not checked the ladder before this post with East sides occupying 3 of the top 4 spots though I do acknowledge Malvern could sneak in to Top 6. Last round clash v Caulfield will be interesting.

Am I missing something here? Oakleigh are on top and undefeated, having beaten Caulfield last round.

As far as N/W goes, in my opinion its pretty open. Melton, Plenty Valley, Werribee and RPB all very capable on there day. Having said that Yarraville have recently smased RPB and are looking like doing the same to Melton so might have an argument to say they should be included there especially with there glaring weakness of bowling being bolstered with Hewet. If I was to pick a side to win it, I would still go Werribee, haven't really gelled yet and side hasn't been settled but once they have both Dean's, O'Brien, Pritchard and James Freeman all up and going and in the side just think they'll have too much fire power.

Caulfield had 5 ducks vs. Oakleigh. Players of calibre like Damiano, Cross, Dorey and Warren not troubling the scorer would be lucky to happen 1 in 100 starts. Still think it's out of those two though in the south east.

As for Lee Weiss, the bloke is out of his depth. Wouldn't get a go at any top 6 club in the 1s.

Agree and agree.

The Bright Boy lost me after Brighton have had a bad year...

With Lee Weiss, yes, probably out of his depth, probably not up to it (today), but I really liked the appointment. He can't be any more than 22, whatever he does and learns this season he will be better for next season, and so on and so forth. I am guessing Moorabbin don't have the coin (or the appeal) to obtain a Sheedy, Warren, Mick Allen, or Flynn. So accepting that 14/15 was never going to be a premiership tilt, put the faith in Weiss and get games into Kennedy and Cull etc, start building a base for something of substance in 2 to 3 years time when these guys start to hit their peak. From a distance, he seems to be passionate about his cricket, shows some leadership potential, and I hope there are some mentors down at Moorleigh that can guide him through. Doing the same old over again and expecting a different result was never going to work so credit to a weak club for having the balls to try something different. I hope they stick by him otherwise this season is just another waste.

I'm not convinced about Werribee. They're lucky they pinched that win against Balwyn, otherwise top 4 would be looking uncertain.

Yarraville definitely seem a contender. The top six on the ladder look pretty strong. If Brunswick's bowlers can rip through the middle / lower order of Plenty Valley tomorrow, they might still be in with a chance.
