2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Well, Pakistan keep powering on despite the controversy that has surrounded them for quite some time. They answered thier critics perfectly with a 9-wicket demolition of a disappointing West Indies. West Indies struggled throughout the whole game with little penetration from the bowlers and a very ordinary batting display. If it weren't for Lara and Chanderpaul in the second dig, the Windies probably would have lost by an innings.

This is also Lara's 100th test so his team-mates will be eager to see this milestone end up as a winning one. Quite a few of the Pakistanis sit on thin ice. Imran Farhat could be in trouble if he doesn't score runs. Shahid Nazir and Umar Gul also face the same situation in the bowling stakes. Abdur Razzaq is expected to be dropped to make way for another bowler.

This should be a closer game, the Windies will be fired up, wanting to give Lara the perfect 100th game while the Pakistanis will want to continue their good form.

Get set for a cracking tes match.

Pakistan (probable): 1 Imran Farhat, 2 Mohammad Hafeez, 3 Younis Khan, 4 Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), 5 Mohammad Yousuf, 6 Shoaib Malik, 7 Kamran Akmal (wk), 8 Shahid Nazir, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Danish Kaneria, 11 Samiullah Khan Niazi

Umar Gul was man of the match last game!

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

It's Chanderpaul's 100th test, not Lara's, right?

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Pakistan won the toss and will bat first.

Pakistan has the same team that won the first test, Razzaq is still in there.
West Indies made 2 changes: Sarwan and Edwards are out, Runako Morton and Powell are in.

Let's hope Morton comes through here.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Pakistan 15-0 after 8 overs

Great bowling by Collymore so far. He's really looking good out there.
Four overs, four maidens.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Pakistan 45-0 after 17

Powell came on and was pretty expensive, conceding 18 runs in 3 overs. So Gayle came on fairly early (for him) and had a very nice looking maiden. And of course, Collymore is still out there looking fantastic.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Go figure. Powell switches ends and bowls a maiden. Simple as that.

45-0 at drinks

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Finally!

Taylor gets Hafeez to tap it back to Ramdin, and the opening partnership is finally broken.

Pakistan 83-1 after 28 overs.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

121-1 after 41 overs.
West Indies can't let this partnership last too long.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Farhat out for 74.
Pakistan 125-2.
Bravo got him to hit it straight to Lara, who took a quick catch.
Now comes one of the best partnerships in world cricket, Younis and Yousuf.

Rumour going around on cricinfo is that he'll need to perform once again to retain his spot.

You're right. I was reading an article on cricinfo last night which said that is was Lara' 100th test. Obviously, the article was misleading and yes it is Chanderpaul's 100th test.

Anyway, back to the game...

Imran Farhat just out, caught by Lara off the bowling of Bravo for 74. Pakistan are now 2/138, Younis Khan on 20, Mohammad Yousuf on 5.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Drinks break.
143-2 after 51.

Wanna know just how dangerous this partnership is? Look at this table:
2006 Test runs
#1 and #3. Both over 1000 runs. And it's not just because they've played in a ton of matches either. They're both in the top 6 in this:
2006 Test batting averages

These two make a fantastic pair.

By the way, wondering how good Yousuf's year has been so far?
Most Test runs in a calendar year
Notice the number of matches and innings for Yousuf? Most of the guys above him played a lot more. (Only one person, Ponting in 2003, has a better average of the people above him!) But with 2 innings in this test, and 2 more in the 3rd test, Yousuf ought to be able to pick up at least another 100 runs, right? He should move into the all-time top 6 (if not higher).

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

65 overs down, Pakistan 187-2 at tea.

The first 2 sessions have been good ones for Pakistan today. So long as they don't blow it at the end here, they're going to be in very good shape for this test.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Massive for the WIndies to break this partnership as soon as possible, these two could quite conceivably bat the game out of reach.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Quite disappointing to see West Indies turning out so flat after a bad 1st test. This contest has been overly one-sided so far. :( Hopefully, at least West Indian batting won't collapse this time.

And just as I said that, Younis goes. Maybe there some faint hope after all in this not being a one-sided domination. But look who just came in. It's Inzy!!!!

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Pakistan 4/263 at stumps on Day 1. Inzamam not out on 30, Shoaib Malik not out on 4. Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf out for 56 and 57 respectively. Jerome Taylor has 2/61.

Great effort from Pakistan so far, in a commanding position currently. West Indies will be disappointed with that effort but still have 4 days to make amends. They want to get wickets early otherwise Pakistan will be getting another big first innings score.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Taylor gets Inzi to edge it back to Ramdin in the 3rd over of the day!
Great start!

Pakistan 269-5

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

superb one-handed catch by Bravo to get rid of Shoaib Malik

Pakistan 315-6

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Kaneria run out on what was going to be the final ball before lunch.
Pakistan all out for 357.
Taylor gets 5 wickets, Collymore gets 2, though his bowling has been superb.

357 in the first innings should make this a very interesting Test match.

Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan vs West Indies at Multan

Collymore is turning out to be quite the bowler !! Although Jerome did get the wickets. Imran answered his critics with a nice 74 & Younis & Yousef combined..again to make 100 runs between them !

C'mon Pakistan !!
