Round 3 Preview
Mackie over Wash Ups just (I will go with the conservative choice but get the impression that the Sharks will be very hard to beat at home. Krotofill, Bott, Park and Kinsella were the stalwarts who shone for the Machine last time out and they should do enough to secure the points in this one).
East Sandy over West just (West opened at $4 at many outlets this week, but with the news of the return of Cricketing Harlot, Stacy Brown, the Cowboys are now into $2.20 and shortening. However as Chuck D stated back in 1988 “Don’t believe the Hype”, as I reckon it will make little difference to the outcome, rather just prolong the contest. Guy Martyn to star).
Elwood over Chelsea comfortably (Rob De Haan is clearly the Premier Spinner in the competition and should once again bamboozle the opposition. Not quite panic stations for the Heighters yet, but there may be some worrisome faces come the end of the month).
Carn Sth over Union just (The Spiders were pretty solid against the reigning Premiers last time out and face far weaker – albeit upbeat – opposition in this one. Rudi Schleiger to continue his good early season form).
Uniting over Le Page comfortably (The Panthers minus McConchie are a far less ruthless outfit and the competition glamour boys should do it in a canter. Ash Russell to score big).
ANA over the Golfers easily (The Royals have been pretty good so far and have had the horror opening draw with the ‘Old Firm’ first up. I do not expect Biggsy to fail two weeks in a row and if ANA post a 200 plus score as is likely this match will peter out early).
Round 3 Review
6/6 (10/18 cumulative) was a welcomed return to form and places right in the mix for the Mark Missen Trophy – just two off the pace. Key wins to The Beach Boys and the Machine away from home has meant the ladder is beginning to have a familiar look to it once again. The Park brothers ensured the Wash Ups slow start to the season continued. Gareth Finney tried hard, but their batting is showing precious little in depth. East Sandy were severely depleted without Luke Dallas or Anton Duddy and looked vulnerable chasing The Cowboys meagre 111 at 4/39. Enter Guy Martyn who played a superb Captains knock and whacked the West bowlers to all parts of Victory Park. Game over and three votes to the Juggies Skipper. It was the Chawla and De Haan show at Beazley Reserve as Elwood comfortably made the runs against Chelsea with 14 overs to spare. Many speak of the Heighters as the sleeping giant, but they simply do not win enough! Union were totally outclassed by the Spiders, but at least they fought it out and put a bit if respectability into their total thanks to some lusty hitting from Covey. Carnegie had contributions a plenty and looking likely to be right in the mix come March. Both Bentleigh teams won with ease with gun recruit Luke Manders getting a ton for Uniting whilst Keith Biggs notched up a half century for ANA against the Golfers. Round 4 Preview
Mackie over Union but I agree with Jimmy that this is no certainty. If Union can post a score this game could be close, but I feel their depth, or lack of it will again be their Achilles heel. Damien Krotofil is in red hot form and should feast on the Hoops attack.
West over Chelsea just, in what the CMCA public have been waiting over 12 months for, the Marc vs. Anthony Reid grudge match. In reality, Chris Fidler and Stacy Brown for the Cowboys and Brad Lockhart and Shaun Ezard are far more likely to be the defining factors in what should be an intriguing contest.
Uniting over The Golfers by the length of the Flemington straight. Very little interest in this one other than whether Manders can do it with the ball, then again he did take 3 for last week. Can he keep wicket?
Spiders over the Wash Ups easily. Unless there is a complete form reversal from the likes of Ryan Heywood, Washington Park is in for a long season. Rudy Schleiger in an all-round performance.
East Sandy over Elwood just, but only because I never tip against the Juggies at home. Rob De Haan is likely to trouble many of the East Sandy bats, but Guy Martyn is an excellent player of spin and could be the difference in a high quality game.
ANA over Le Page, however, this is the type of game the Royals have dropped over the years, one on paper that they seemingly cannot, so I give the Panthers some hope, particularly if Mick De Iacovo gets going.
