Cmca 2012/13

Round 3 Preview

Mackie over Wash Ups just (I will go with the conservative choice but get the impression that the Sharks will be very hard to beat at home. Krotofill, Bott, Park and Kinsella were the stalwarts who shone for the Machine last time out and they should do enough to secure the points in this one).

East Sandy over West just (West opened at $4 at many outlets this week, but with the news of the return of Cricketing Harlot, Stacy Brown, the Cowboys are now into $2.20 and shortening. However as Chuck D stated back in 1988 “Don’t believe the Hype”, as I reckon it will make little difference to the outcome, rather just prolong the contest. Guy Martyn to star).

Elwood over Chelsea comfortably (Rob De Haan is clearly the Premier Spinner in the competition and should once again bamboozle the opposition. Not quite panic stations for the Heighters yet, but there may be some worrisome faces come the end of the month).

Carn Sth over Union just (The Spiders were pretty solid against the reigning Premiers last time out and face far weaker – albeit upbeat – opposition in this one. Rudi Schleiger to continue his good early season form).

Uniting over Le Page comfortably (The Panthers minus McConchie are a far less ruthless outfit and the competition glamour boys should do it in a canter. Ash Russell to score big).

ANA over the Golfers easily (The Royals have been pretty good so far and have had the horror opening draw with the ‘Old Firm’ first up. I do not expect Biggsy to fail two weeks in a row and if ANA post a 200 plus score as is likely this match will peter out early).

Round 3 Review

6/6 (10/18 cumulative) was a welcomed return to form and places right in the mix for the Mark Missen Trophy – just two off the pace. Key wins to The Beach Boys and the Machine away from home has meant the ladder is beginning to have a familiar look to it once again. The Park brothers ensured the Wash Ups slow start to the season continued. Gareth Finney tried hard, but their batting is showing precious little in depth. East Sandy were severely depleted without Luke Dallas or Anton Duddy and looked vulnerable chasing The Cowboys meagre 111 at 4/39. Enter Guy Martyn who played a superb Captains knock and whacked the West bowlers to all parts of Victory Park. Game over and three votes to the Juggies Skipper. It was the Chawla and De Haan show at Beazley Reserve as Elwood comfortably made the runs against Chelsea with 14 overs to spare. Many speak of the Heighters as the sleeping giant, but they simply do not win enough! Union were totally outclassed by the Spiders, but at least they fought it out and put a bit if respectability into their total thanks to some lusty hitting from Covey. Carnegie had contributions a plenty and looking likely to be right in the mix come March. Both Bentleigh teams won with ease with gun recruit Luke Manders getting a ton for Uniting whilst Keith Biggs notched up a half century for ANA against the Golfers. Some bloke called Matthew Lloyd took a Michelle…

Round 4 Preview

Mackie over Union but I agree with Jimmy that this is no certainty. If Union can post a score this game could be close, but I feel their depth, or lack of it will again be their Achilles heel. Damien Krotofil is in red hot form and should feast on the Hoops attack.

West over Chelsea just, in what the CMCA public have been waiting over 12 months for, the Marc vs. Anthony Reid grudge match. In reality, Chris Fidler and Stacy Brown for the Cowboys and Brad Lockhart and Shaun Ezard are far more likely to be the defining factors in what should be an intriguing contest.

Uniting over The Golfers by the length of the Flemington straight. Very little interest in this one other than whether Manders can do it with the ball, then again he did take 3 for last week. Can he keep wicket?

Spiders over the Wash Ups easily. Unless there is a complete form reversal from the likes of Ryan Heywood, Washington Park is in for a long season. Rudy Schleiger in an all-round performance.

East Sandy over Elwood just, but only because I never tip against the Juggies at home. Rob De Haan is likely to trouble many of the East Sandy bats, but Guy Martyn is an excellent player of spin and could be the difference in a high quality game.

ANA over Le Page, however, this is the type of game the Royals have dropped over the years, one on paper that they seemingly cannot, so I give the Panthers some hope, particularly if Mick De Iacovo gets going.

Good luck to all

noticing that you've been tipping against esbc each week Bit Rich. do you

a) genuinely think they will lose every week?
b) just hope they will lose and think your tip could make the difference?
c) feel bitter towards them for some reason?

Tips for Round 4 :

The key to this round will be how many key personnel are not playing for each side.

Brighton Union v Mackie - Union don't seem to have the depth, rely on too few.
West Bentleigh v Chelsea Heights - in a game that can go either way.
Kingston Heath v Bentleigh Uniting - easily, batting and bowling is too strong
Carnegie South v Washington Park - Wash Ups need their key batsman to make runs to have any chance.
East Sandringham Boys Club v Elwood - game of the round, ESBC in a toss of the coin. Elwood rely heavily on their spinners.
Bentleigh ANA v Le Page Park- ANA playing well at the moment.

Good luck to all playing cricket and on the punt.

Brighton Union v Mackie - I don't know how Union can be successful when there is such a massive gap between their firsts, seconds and thirds. Big depth issue.
West Bentleigh v Chelsea Heights
Kingston Heath v Bentleigh Uniting
Carnegie Southv Washington Park
East Sandringham Boys Club v Elwood - Big call, but Elwood have been impressive and I need to climb back up the MM ladder!

Solid effort by the gold caps today with 3 subs. Seems Elwood weren't too happy to find out they were playing an undermanned ESBC outfit for this week only. Big surprise in the Carnegie Sth game. Got to put teams like Wash Ups away given where the respective sides are at. Big scalp for the Sharks to notch their first win. Kudos to them.

What was the problem at Lords Reserve? Good luck to Rob Quiney, hopefully may get his first Aussie Test Cap on Friday.

There was a burst mains pipe under the ground on Thursday night that caused a minor flood at Lord Reserve. The council was called in to fix it and they deemed the ground unplayable for Saturday. The ground quickly recovered by Friday night and was absolutely playable on Saturday, but a call had to be made on Thursday night.

It obviously had no bearing on how poorly the Spiders batted on Saturday and how well the Sharks played. The ground at Caulfield Park had 250+ written all over it and it was a pearler of a day to bat. Agree, Kudos to the Sharks as they look like notching up their first win back in Longy.

PP, thanks for clearing that one up on ground location. CP5 was lightning and would have to say one of the better grounds to play on this time of year. Perhaps just an off day for the Spider bats?, although we did improve our bowling, fielding and batting this week - it had to......

Good luck to Bobby this Friday if named... just happened to pop in for a brewskie at the Quiney-Smith's yesterday when Bob rang in to tell the family who were all there (+ Helen who knew but remained silent!!) wow - what an experience - one HAPPY family. So happy for them, and the great man. Truly respected in the CMCA circles and wider - and well deserved.....!!

It's official, Watson out, Q-Dog in!!

Good praccy match tonight between Bentleigh Uniting and South Caulfield with South getting up on the last ball. Some great cricket by both sides and you have to be a pretty good side to knock off BU in your comp.

Great to see four CMCA juniors in the 16 man squad for the Victorian U/19's team. The final team of 13 will be selected late November. Best of luck to;

Lincoln Edwards - Melbourne C.C. (Elsternwick C.C.)
Josh Manning - St Kilda C.C. (Kingston Heath C.C.)
Jack Taylor - Prahran C.C. (Washington Park C.C.)
Liam Tonkin - Hawthorn/Monash C.C. (Beaumaris C.C.)

Manning, Taylor & Tonkin playing in their respective Premier club's 1st XI. While Edwards plays in the 2nd XI. Great to see local talent going onto bigger and better things.

I agree Billy, another kid who is doing really well is the son of a hoops legend David Blair.
Robbie Blair is in the one's at Hawthorn / Monash this week.
He also made his 1's debut against Frankston last year.
The CMCA is probably the best comp around in producing talented cricketers who proceed to bigger things.
There will be plenty more to come in the near future as well.

Great to see uniting get done again.
I hear Barney is not just under whip from home but putting time back into the community.
Great for the rest of comp to catch up.
