seems you've been around for a while haha :D
blair allen would be a walk up start in the u25s but he is rumoured to be leaving geelong cricket to play elsewhere, thats why i didnt put him in originally :)
Andy hughes is an ok good bat, bottom hand specialist.
Fabris and schaller i have not seen but have only heard good things about schaller from BPCA people, shanebourne are they any good?
I know schaller is only young however.

Im 24. Played 1st from 15 so it feels like i've been around for ever! Andy will be good, he has improved over the past few years and with confidence he could become a decent player. If he only had half the confidence his brother has....
I think Yelland is under 25 she, i mean he would be a walk up start for sure.

Fabris and schaller, never heard of. Where do they play?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Yeah, i reckon

1. South Barwon
2. West
3. East
4. Grovedale
5. St Josephs
6. Newcombe

But City will be the dark horse

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

1. Geelong West
2. East Belmont
3. Sth Barwon
4. St Joesephs
5. Leopold
6. Lara
7. Grovedale
8. Geelong City
9. Newcomb

12.Newtown

West vs Sth Barwon Grand Final, with Sth Barwon to break there premiership drought, due to experience of last years finals series.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Couple of Questions. When does the fixture come out, and will there be an expanded Twenty20 comp this year?

well i was gunna say anderton might be u25 but i think his zanoni's age so that rules that out.

Think ando's 25 atm, trapped in a 35 yr old mans body.
But would be a pretty handy bowler in any team.
Could probably hold his own in the drink off with Babbs for the first half hour too

Fixture out very soon. The GCA had to wait for the final decision on Mainfold. They are also thinking of how to run the 20/20 comp. Might be run on Sundays!

St Josephs and West will be the interesting ones to watch i think.
St Josephs look to have lost 3 of the better bats in the comp in Loftus, Foster and Lowery. As well as Bowlers Lowery, Lowery and Loftus. Morgan and Fanning will have to put some big numbers up.
West have gained big with Loftus and Chappelle. Will definitely have the ability to make big scores. Shane Arthur and the Spence boys will have a bit more freedom to play their natural games.
I think unless Lara can pick up new players they will struggle to repeat what they did last year.

st albans are sending posts thru the ballarat ca looking 4 players!! do they expect them to play for nothing???? just a question, not bagging stalbans

Babies Arm, its good to see youre on the ball (Cricket Ball) yes it is true that St Albans Breakwater have posted an invitation to any cricketeers looking for a change of club from the Ballarat area, that invitation also goes out to anyone from around here who loves to play with good mates who hang a little bit of shit on each other but importantly enjoy them selves.

If you ever want to get on board I would like to hear from you. I went to training at the old nets at St Albans when they were on the Boundary Road side in the early 80's and I love the place.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I still think Leopold who have added Harvey Stephenson and Skorobolak will be there abouts again. Possiblity that Tony Brown might be back also which will be that huge bonus and enough to put them into the top 6. Not sure how Stowy will go again with his knees.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

sam hall from north is same age as yelland, he'd have to get a look in for the under 25s. played real well in country week last year.

yeah fabris has been down at geelong might of played a couple in the two's not certain.

schaller although he's a big nuffy can really bowl, he bowls left arm leggies with a ripper wrong un' needs to go play higher cricket to really improve and be noticed eg. GCA1 or VCA don't know if he will tho with he's old man beeing a barwon heads legend and knob.

mitch herbission also from barwon heads is the best young bat in the bpca by miles he's in the vic u/19s squad im pretty sure and he also needs to play higher cricket.

Skrobalak bowls pies. He's had one good year in GCA.

yea his not that great, is good on bowler friendly wickets but after round 5-6 he becomes easy pickings for the good batsmen.

still a regular first XI player who will partner left haned zanoni at memorial park

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

He'll go ok, but can't see him being the missing piece of the jig saw for Leopold.

Scored 70 in the final.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I think he will improve them though, not a world beater, but need to remember they were only one win off the grand final last season. Or do people think they over achieved ?

fabris was at geelong. doubt he played as high as 2s!!!
and herbisson wont get far in the u/19s playing for bhcc. while most of them are in vca 1sts and 2nds, his facing the likes of braniff!!!

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

He's got a bit of mongrel in him too, give them a bit of grunt which they may have lacked last year.

Id have to agree- i think they are a competitive and decent team, and will continue to be in future. I just dont think they will ever set the comp on fire, or have quite enough to go all the way.
Having said that- not many expected heaps out of south barwon last year and they fared pretty well.
Guess thats what makes cricket good.

Yeh west have potential to post massive scores this year. if theyre bowling can back it up, on paper they could well go all the way. But not too sure about their bowling.
Still think east will be the benchmark.

the bpca isn't the strongest comp going around but does have some decent bowlers eg. Chris Welford who bowls ok from all reports and luke hardiman from down at ocean grove les wallace from barwon heads brendan long from collendina these blokes all can hold there own and a couple have been gun players in GCA1 although hardiman is getting on a bit id imagine he still bowls ok

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Div 1:

Sth Barwon
Grovedale
East Belmont
Geelong West
Leopold

Pretty sure it will only be a Top 5 this season.

Would never doubt that there are some talented cricketers playing loacal district leagues such as BPCA but the reality is that if you want to get noticed and play at a higher level, then you play GCA. That is of course unless you just want to keep playing with mates and don't want to take your cricket seriously. If you were a young bloke and didn't make the TAC cut you wouldn't keep playing with a district club I wouldn't think. The best comp and the springboard would be the GFL.

herbison just wants to play with his mates at the heads, isn't too interested in cricket, is quite a good footy player aswell and is more committed there.

he was at vic u19s but a that stage he was still training/playing at geelong.
but even he admitted getting in the team was well beyond him, said it was good practice tho.
