New Zealand In Australia - 2015

All our bowlers have been loose today except Bracewell and Southee who has been excellent.

I'm quickly losing patience with Craig's two-crap-balls-an-over...
Haven't seen that much of him but he's looking like a pie chucker today..

Big opportunity for Usman now.

Is NZ starting to see the effects of losing Bond as the bowling coach? My brother said it half jokingly but I think he's right, we didn't bowl well in England and it's carried over into Oz. People don't think these specialist coaches add much but what McDermott did for Oz and what Donald and then Bond did for NZ shows what effect they have at an elite level.

Also time for Mark Craig to go, he's having too many days like this and there's a form FC spinner waiting in NZ (T Astle).

How soft is smith wanting to go down at 4 when he was doing well at 3? Not just that, he's throwing khawaja in at 3, who'll be under a bit of pressure to perform since he's now expected to establish himself as a regular player now.

Is there going to be a time when a prominent player says he'll go up the order? I dare anyone say they want to open.
funny how that has gone today but a long way to travel till it can be seen as a success.

Well strong day at home for the Aussies. Am sure NZ will come out stronger tomorrow with a chance to review what was going on. Not what i expected from them they have been so strong.

People are saying that the pitch is too flat and no doubt it probably is but we'll have to wait to see until NZ bat on it, will be funny if Australians just rip right through them.

Well, that was an interesting day to say the least. The pitch had a bit in it early but after that Australia batted well and New Zealand bowled pretty poorly.

To be honest I didn't think the pitch was too flat, it's nice to bat on once you're in but New Zealand really struggled at times. There were so many short balls, especially from Craig and then the seamers seemed to drop short a lot as the day went on. Southee bowled well but had no help, Bracewell tried hard but doesn't really have the pace to trouble batsmen on a wicket like this. I was a bit surprised Latham didn't get a bowl, would have thought McCullum would have at least given him a few overs to try something. Have to say though McCullum's field placings didn't help either, the field seemed to change every few balls at one point and his impatience and likely frustration got to him.

Perhaps Matt Henry would have been more capable on a deck like this? Has a bit more pace and could trouble the Australian top order?

The Aussie commentators are such a bunch of d-bags... TV muted.

To think we put up with this every year.

To be honest, the majority are actually fairly knowledgeable about the game. The main issue is they are all in the same room together and considering a lot of them played together makes things worse. It then becomes a matey, back-slapping love-in.

Is Smith calling the game here? I haven't seen the TV coverage yet due to work so following the game through Cricinfo. Would be good to see some non-Australian commentators here.

What about Ish Sodhi? From what I've seen of him he isn't too bad although still fairly young and fresh at the elite level.

Sodhi was outbowled by Astle in the recent NZ A vs SL A games and is consistently outbowled by Astle in domestic cricket.

On pure potential you'd go with Santner, Sodhi needs more time in FC cricket.

I managed to catch most of the first session and Ian Smith is over on 9 for it. Also iirc the swing dried up very quickly and didn't even last up till 10 overs.

He's a long way off imo from what I've seen, would have very likely copped a pasting out there yesterday if he got a game.

Didn't think it was that flat but no doubt it is suffering the usual drop in pitch issues. The ball was swinging after tea again but NZ just didn't bowl with enough consistency. The real problem for them now is that we will amass a large score and the pressure of the chase can make any pitch seem difficult.

Nah it's definitely a proper pitch up at the GABBA still.

Couldn't have asked for a better start from an Aussie perspective - Warner very mature, Burns after a shaky start justified his selection, as did Khawaja.

That said, NZ still get to bat on the same wicket - so prob best not to get too far ahead of the situation just yet.

Reading the papers this morning - McCullum copping loads for his "hyperactive captaincy" - Tyson Otto on news.com.au

Very disappointed at NZs start. Cracking catch from Taylor. Outstanding performance from Khawaja.

Warner can get stuffed though.

I'm in two minds about that, yes he kept moving the fields around and didn't allow the bowlers to concentrate on a single plan but in his defense none of them looked like they could execute a bowling plan.

Still of the opinion that a top bowling coach is a must for this young bowling attack.

Matt Henry has slightly more pace but hasn't being bowling that well of late so Bracewell was the right call. Having said that, would have loved to see the pace of Milne on that pitch but I'm in dreamland there... Has so many injury issues like Pat Cummins.

I thought Bracewell bowled reasonably well. He actually troubled Warner several times with his into the pitch bowling.. No complaints from me.

Craig looked like a B-grade club bowler, again... Can't justify him in the side unless he does something dramatic in the next innings. The only problem is playing Santner (back-up spinner and all-rounder) on debut against Australia in Australia would be throwing in the deep end to say the least..

No complaints about the pitch. I reckon Australia will enjoy bowling on it with the bounce and a bit of pace..
