Squad for the tour of Bangladesh, Tait and Krezja out for Pattinson and Doherty.

Michael Clarke (c)
Shane Watson (vc)
Xavier Doherty
Callum Ferguson
Brad Haddin
John Hastings
Mike Hussey
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Tim Paine
James Pattinson
Ricky Ponting
Steve Smith
Cameron White

Good to see that Krejza is gone. He doesn't have enough control to play at this level. It seems a bit stupid to have the same batsmen that pretty much failed against any decent opposition in the World Cup.

Clarke could have been given some new material to work with.

Not sure how White is still in the squad, hasn't made a decent score for a while now.

It takes so much to be dropped once you are in. If they weren't going to drop him for the big knock-out match in the WC, there is probably no point in dropping him for Bangladesh. They'll be hoping that he finds his form there. Or even stupider, they'll drop him for Ferguson but keep him on the tour.

What will be really interesting will be the next test squad.

You're right. However CA needs to bite the bullet, grow a pair and start making some tough calls. Gone is the set-up of yesteryear where players who weren't good enough were discarded once they could no longer perform at the top level. Now it seems everyone has endless chances until they and the team fall into a very big hole.

Yes, although that's for another thread. ;)

The QCA grapevine says White was retained because of his age 27. Agree with keeping Smith but he needs to score runs and Clarke will bowl him unlike Ponting.
Starc and Hazlewood still recovering but look the goods so does Cummins.

Yes it will be interesting to see how Clarke handles the spinners compared with Ponting. White has his detractors but he will have to fail more to be dropped. This has always been the way with our teams, i can think of many time i wondered why certain players were retained. Funny i think it was only last summer and now he's captain.

I like Cricket Australia's policy on retaining players, especially in the Test squad. They graft and grow players, or retain older players knowing that having them out in the middle will get them back in form eventually. There comes a time, though, when it's too much and you have to drop them.

Symonds and Watson were dropped after a small stint in the team. Look at where they ended up. Ponting and Waugh also had the same thing happen to them. White will be back and hopefully he can learn something about this and work on the bad points of his game, get a bit of a reality check.

Until then I would say his replacement is Dave Hussey. Ferguson will be great for when Mike Hussey retires, but there is simply no need for another batsman that picks up the singles and doubles in quick fashion, the only difference being that M.Hussey has been in the business so long he can change gears in a flash and become one of the most brutal batsmen on the planet. Ferguson doesn't have that gear it seems, watching him in domestic cricket he really does seem to be a finisher who runs between the wickets brilliantly. D.Hussey is more of a power player and that's White's role in the team. D.Hussey should be back in ahead of Ferguson you'd have to think, he was only out due to him having his first child.

Cam White is not a powerplayer due to him having changed his batting style so that he plays more straight. In the past 2 years his sr is 78. Overall it's 80. He plays a real power innings only very, very occasionally now.

As a strike rate comparison with other regular Aus players last 2 years.

Mike Hussey - 93
Michael Clarke - 76
Ricky Ponting - 81
Shane Watson - 93
Callum Ferguson - 85
Shaun Marsh - 76
James Hopes - 99
Mitchell Johnson - 116 (and his average is a startling 32, they are seriously misusing this guy leaving him in the tail.)

There are some powerplayers there, Watson, Johnson, Hussey and the discarded James Hopes. White being there for his power game looks weird given his real-time strike rate.

Interesting those strike rates. Pure numbers tell an interesting storey. I would have agreed with Boris about White but the stat's don't support. Johnson will be used differently by Clarke but to over promote him in the order would be dangerous, i don't think Johnson handles expectation very well.

Oh, he's definitely temperamentally suspect, but just to stick him in at 7 on an ongoing basis would do for me. One place may not sound much in the order, but he'd be facing more overs generally and if he comes off, he gives the runrate a real boost.

The reason I think they should try this is that he's an automatic pick (seemingly) for his bowling anyway, so use him more as he really can hit and he never gets bogged down even in test matches.

Not a bad idea to try and use Johnson more, I'd still probably list him at 8 but have him 'floating' in the batting order depending on the situation.

As Boris pointed out, the bowling is not strong and that was shown up tonight. If the one-day specialist bowlers aren't going to be fit & in-form, we have some worrying to do.

Better is that white go to little up and must be LEE/JHONSON replace the SIDDLE. It will be better.

I'm not sure what you are saying about White, do you mean he should be batting further up the order? Like at 3 or 4? I'd agree with you. He needs some time at the crease to build an innings these days.

I would hope that Siddle isn't going to be in the one day squad. They've plenty of bowlers lined up before him.

Well, there you go, the only changes from the squad that went to Bangladesh are White out, Marsh in. David Hussey in, Ferguson out. Which is a bit of a 'WTF is going on' change quite frankly. Both Marsh and Ferguson should be in the squads and Punter GORN. What exactly are they gaining except stroking Punter's ego by having him in there? It was bad enough him going to Bangladesh after the World Cup.

I agree entirely with the guys that they did bring in. Marsh and D. Hussey need to be there in my opinion. Maybe Punter will be "gorn" soon, making room for Ferguson or whoever hits some form. Now that Punter has given up the captaincy, he is *should* only be a serious form slump away from being dropped given his age, but you never know with Australian cricket. Harder to get dropped then get picked.

Well, I've seen one of the most feeble attempts at a chase - not sure I can call it an attempt really - that I've ever witnessed from an Australian side. I'd rather they got out slogging that this stupid 'minnows trying to survive and get an average booster' attitude.

Tinking that Punter might be left out of the team. There really needs to be a youth policy in the run to the next cup.
