Gca Player Movements 2011/2012

Surely East Belmont after using country week last year for their recruiting drive would have to be favorites.

Not sure how you could leave St Albans out in Div. 2?

Good call, yet to hear anything official out of East Belmont though.
I'll have St Albans in at 6th, think they were very lucky to win it last year.
Who have corio picked up?
Their best team which they rarely got on the park last year would be in the best few in div3, providing they're fair dinkum.
"Bambury, O'Neill, and Lineen is what i've heard. Add those 3 in and surely they'll be up there and very hard to beat.
Bambury is massive if true. O'neill will struggle to crack it in there best 11 IMO, Lineen is a good honest seamer. All handy ins though.

Anyone know when the draw gets done? We'll be losing a week at the start of the year again as the AFL grand final is in October this year wont we?

Heard the other day former AFL player (and handy cricketer) Tony Brown has signed on to play with Collendina next year. But the whisper from Winchelsea was half the Cobras side from last year are close to signing, with Will Handley one name that has been mentioned

Any other divison 3 news - are corio bay going to have a side? Will winch have a seconds? Will Anakie have a side?

Banno, teesdale, Meredith, Modewarre, how are they all travelling? Any change of coaches or personnell.

What do you mean signing, does this mean they are all on contract getting paid, what a waste of money for that grade of cricket

I think the div3 comp is turning into a bit of a disaster. The best bet for the GCA and the clubs is to part way. GCA to become or revert back to an all turf comp.
The Div3 teams and the BPCA should join forces and create a two tier hard wicket comp with promotion relegation.
Teams such as Corio and North Shore could go upto div2 to make a 14 team league, don't see how it wouldn't work. The draw is unfair anyway with everyone playing two teams twice.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

like to go the other way and make division one back to 10 teams (highton & manifold to go back) and this would make the division 2 a bit more competitive with alot more depth to the competition, and this would flow on to division 3 also, and the teams that dont cut the mustard can form a hard wicket competion. the only problem would be the an unfair draw but this is already the case anyway.

Probably at or after the GCA AGM, which is on 20th July.

Yes, the season won't start till 8th October. Also might be some scheduling problems caused by Geelong hosting the Australian Country Championships in early January.

GCA3 maght be in danger of turning into similar to what the Churches comp became (and ultimately led to its demise), namely too few clubs with too big a gap in standard. I think the GCA would like to be able to standardise GCA3 as a 12-team comp, which would require Shelford (or Anakie - surely not) to go up, and a more even spread across the teams. But the gap between best and worst is almost certainly greater in GCA3 than either of the other divisions.

Consolidating all the turf clubs in GCA1 & GCA2 is fine in theory, but where does that leave a club like Modewarre which wants to instal turf? They reckon they could start doing so immediately if Surf Coast Shire came to the party.

Even if this eventuated (all turf clubs into GCA2), the BPCA wouldn't be interested in taking on GCA3 refugees. They were burnt by GWSC a few years ago, and then there's the travel issue. GCA3 clubs have just got to battle on as they are and aspire to better things.

Little river would like to install turf, Wyndham city council won't budge.

Very disappointing considering the amount of turf wickets being put in the new estates!

It seems the only people with the problems with division 3, are the clubs looking down!

How true that statement is, plenty of people pass judgement on Div3 without even watching a game! Just because you play on a rolled bit of mud doesnt make you a good cricketer!!!!!

If you had 4 combined sides with the best players from GCA 1,2 & 3 plus BPCA GCA3 would come a distant last. At least BPCA clubs have 4 sides GCA3 clubs are lucky to field 2 including yours. To me that's a comp in strife, won't be around much longer IMO

As for Little River getting turf, well hard to see why a council would grant the money. Hardly a growth area, does anyone actually live there?

Anyhow has anyone got any updates on how the fixture will look, will East Belmont get to play Highton twice like they did with Thomson last year?

I note your cynicism Wasim, but believe it or not, it's all above board. The fixture itself doesn't change from year to year, but the clubs randomly draw numbers after the AGM - the number you draw gives you the corresponding number in the fixture. Maybe God loves East Belmont:)

No it dosnt any more because of there being to many clubs with turf wickects this is exactly why there are alot of ordinary cricketers playing turf cricket

Little river is just outside the fringes of the biggest growth area of the Country. So why not invest now for the future?
