General Chat 12/13

That just seems terrible. Surely it would be better to even schedule the bye teams against each other from south seconds and senior seconds? Despite it perhaps being slightly uneven week to week I'm sure the majority of teams would agree it would be better to have a game, that's why people play cricket. All it takes is a washout and a team is missing a month of cricket at the 2nd XI level...

Clayton were already down a month – they have byes in 2 two dayers. I think Moorabbin Park missed 3 days with byes. Hard to justify to your members – “look guys you will miss 4 days of cricket for no particular reason, but if you don’t mind playing the same amount of fees that will be great”

There was some wacky stuff in there – Carnegie didn’t make the GF last year in either South A, or South A2 yet were listed in South 2nds to make 9 teams. They could have kept it at 8 teams, have no byes and play each other twice over the course of the season

I’m sure the clubs in the lower grades who always end up playing the clubs whose 2nds have byes will be rapt!!!

Both Carnegie and Aspendale were given notice last week that they will be promoted to South Division. On behalf of the Carnegie Cricket Club, we welcome to play cricket at the higher level but would also like the VTCA to give us a plan going forward on how they intend re-strengthen the Southern Arm of the VTCA. Delegates Meeting tonight so it might be interesting..

If Aspendale have gone up to South, it looks like their 2nds haven’t come up – which is probably fair enough given they had a heap of kids last year, and struggled. Why don’t they then bring up Bonbeach Tangy, who finished on top and made the GF in South A2

And how many teams does this leave in South A – or have they already made that a mix of 1sts and 2nds and 3rds

I just don’t get why you have byes in a grade that high up – makes zero sense to me

Agree - I would much rather see the 8 teams per comp format, 7 x day matches and 7 x 2 day matches. I'm not too sure what Aspendale plan to do. We just received an email saying the top 4 teams in the South A division have been promoted.

Once again, at the president's meeting the consensus from the top table was that 2nds comps would remain. It has long been thrown up on these fora that getting rid of them was a way to increase the depth of the south - and now it looks like they are going to do it, but only part way therefore leaving byes in top grades. Weird

Going to be some wacky grades with 4 sides coming up, 2 clubs going to the DDCA and presumably two going down to leave 6 1st XI teams in South A - and 2nds and 3rds propping it up

Surely they can get fixtures out for divisions it doesn't effect? We are awaiting the fixture release to try and book our "main" functions so our 1sts/2nds aren't playing at greenvale or something when we have a big function.

Ah well shit happens. Not long now until i get to bowl a ball in anger and cop abuse from the opposition (i deserve it) Looking forward to finally getting out and playing some cricket.

We were close last night, but they still need work
I'd prefer they take their time and get it right. What we saw last night (for about 10 minutes) was not right
Once again RAT, before you go off with your crap you should try and make contact with the Secretary to find out whats really going on. Your rep was there tonight and he is a good fellow so maybe contact him as well.

What's crap about it Sledge? - the fixtures were posted on the VTCA website. Once again Sledge, you should actually read what is written before shooting your mouth off
And I know the delegates meeting was last night, I was almost there.

What I saw last night at the delegates meeting was not a fixture but just a structure setup of the clubs, which is still currently being negotiated between a few clubs. With VMCU rules stating that if you are to leave an association then you must notify your incumbent association by the 31st of July and then you have to have council ground nominations in by Mid August .. So in saying that, I can't see how the VTCA can show a fixture until at least September, unless it's a work in progress an not a finalised version.

From what I've heard and can figure out the VTCA has attempted to satisfy all the south clubs requests but in doing so the divisions have become lopsided... In the end I just want to have a game of cricket each Saturday, so to avoid byes hopefully clubs can compromise a bit to make sure we have even grades. If this means your 2nds are playing 1sts or 3rds playing 2nds so be it! Better than not playing...

Its a post that wasn't needed, as you need to go through your club then you might learn something, instead of shooting off on here.

It’s a VTCA forum for crying out loud. I had a query from one of our members about the fact that the draws were up for the 2nds (in the VTCA) and we had a bye in round whatever it was

Once again read what I (and others) have written and tell me if any of my facts are wrong, or if any of my opinions are unwarranted. I can tell you that my facts are right, and I’m still allowed to have an opinion

You had a query from one of your members, mate go to your secretary ! FWITW its a CA problem with the system and proper fixtures will be up soon

so its either 9 teams Senior South & 9 teams South A or 8 teams Senior South and 10 South A. Looks like the ball rests with Carnegie as to what to do seeing Aspendale rejected the option to go to Senior South. Looks like RJS004 is from Carnegie land...Whats the story???

According to Sledge, ask your secretary ;)
