2016/2017 Barclay Shield

Definite rumblings? The only definite thing going on is the Croc of Shite coming from you and Serge. I'd be rapt if that was my club. You don't become as big as they have(Numbers wise) without doing things well on and off field. The fact that their A grade slipped at the last hurdle is irrelevant. 6 senior teams plus, T20, vets and 6 junior teams all played finals with only two of them missing a GF berth. I find that remarkable. Wish my club could enjoy that type of season.

I didn't pot Riverside. I was merely responding to a post from the weekend warrior ( who brought up a post about rumblings at Riverside).
Geez, hate to have an opinion......

I too agree,it's an amazing effort by the riverside lower grade players, but I guarantee every supporter of that club would swap every premiership won this year for that 'a' grade flag, and to rub insult in their bank balance has decreased by 50k+ for what??? I was just pointing out they lost it at the selection table, clearly 2 bats short and 2 bowlers too many. To have 6 bowlers bowling around a dozen overs each shows to me he's just trying to give all his mate a go and doesn't give the main bowlers enough time to get into a rhythm.

Don't think I was potting them either. Just saying that if you recruit as heavily as they have over past 2 seasons, which I would say has come at some cost, then the expectation would have been a Barclay Shield flag. It's certainly great for the club as a whole to have the success in the lower grades, but there has been multiple success in the lower grades at Riverside in years gone past in the days when they paid a coach and everyone was on incentives. What they did last year was take a path that i believe they thought would secure them the elusive Barclay flag. It hasn't worked out and like a couple of others, I have heard of some older heads that didn't like the original plan and aren't convinced it's the way to go moving forward. Hey, with all that lower grade success, then perhaps they're in a far better position to develop from within and get a coach like Trapdaw to get them across the line.

I agreee with all of the above...
Its the arrogance of going in with an unbalanced side and not respecting your opposition that hurts their brand the most. If scotty Gibbs had that list at his disposal when he was in charge they might have 2 flags in a row.

Harsh but true!

Not disagreeing as such but was more referring to the comment about rumblings that members aren't happy based on no evidence, we could say that about every club that doesn't win a flag to be honest. Having opinions about selection and tactics is fine I've got no dramas with that. Maybe I'm a little old school in my support of clubs and there Volunteers. I think all clubs are different and are run with different dynamics to the next, but all the committees at clubs have the members interests as there first priority. I just find it hard to believe that there would be to many at that club that wouldn't be happy with were they are at.

All good points....
But at the end of the day they would definitely be disappointed with the mates first policy at the selection table. You don't take 5 quicks to India on raging turners.....

They give Macleod a sniff with the side they selected and were outplayed in a big way.

To be fair , They went into the grand final with an unchanged line up from the previous semi final win - the same side which won convincingly against Macleod in the final game of the home and away season.

I've had a smile on my face ever since the fantastic news of MacLeod's win filtered through.

I think the Riverside spending strategy works well. Spend a heap of money getting merssaneries into your club, push the old loyal blokes down the grades and prevent the talented kids coming up and presto.....lower grade flags. Brilliant!

I think you'll find Conor what he's saying is completely true. Why are you bitter towards Vaughan?

No club would be spending more than that especially Macleod who would of spent half that. All I'm saying it's a lot of money for no return. Also hearing a lot of rumblings from mont. Prob 3 gone from last season.
Fair point, although they have had great success across the club in terms of flags last season so you'd think those paid players are playing some role in helping develop the younger blokes at the club who will be he next gen of players... but at the same time, clubs are ultimately judged by first eleven flags. Mont battling to attract players and will find it tough to hold their spot
