2015/2016 D Grade And Below

It's frustrating and the same issue that killed the 1 day comp. I remember our 1 day side was half guys who were just there for a bit of fun, but they often came up against high tier cricketers who just smashed them all over the place or bowled thunderbolts.

Not sure how you limit this type of thing though, or if it's even possible to do fairly.

Again lots of flat track bullies hurting the lower grades.

Why would Eltham's Opening Bowler (Hogg) open the bowling in F1 against the bottom team who had 10 players.

Harley Smith played F3 again. Club punishment, or are they trying to get their team into the finals?

Should have said, Started with 10.
Favrin turned up 20 overs in.
Still doesn’t answer why the top team playing the bottom team needing to bowl a Money Shield opening bowler.

Given they are the top team, they probably didn't need to bowl a Money Shield bowler. Seems like a case of a player not being available for both Saturdays.

The problem stems from different grades having different playing dates. Money Shield having a 2 dayer, while lower grades having 2 x 1 dayers.

To prevent it happening, perhaps there needs to be a rule that disallows a player from dropping too many grades in a single round.

Or a rule that says if you have played in a Shield grade in the current season, then you can't play in F or G grade for the remainder of that season. (unless you have DVCA approval. i.e. you're an injured bowler playing as a batsman)

Playing in the ECA, their rules seem to have fixed the problem fairly easy. In a nutshell:

You cannot drop more than one grade (at your club) from the grade you previously played in, unless you meet this criteria: You're over 40yo, or are under 18yo (to give some leeway to old blokes and junior cricketers) or if you have missed the last 5 weeks of cricket (so fill ins or injured players aren't penalised). It works really well.

It stopped guys doing exactly what happens week in, week out in the DVCA. I honestly don't get why A) Clubs do it. and B) Why players get a kick out of bullying cricketers that they know are clearly below their standard. Its pathetic

I had a read of that rule and the DVCA would be better if it were adopted.

It would only impact a handful of players at each club, and would make lower grade cricket much fairer.

It makes sense. Just need a couple of clubs to nominate it to be added as a rule next season, then the clubs can vote on it. Would quickly show which clubs are wanting a fairer competition.

Few blokes getting a bit precious here...

We played against Fav in c grade one dayer before Christmas and what a great challenge and learning curve for our young bowlers. He got 70 odd and we still got the win.

In saying that what Tongs says happens in his comp is pure logic... don’t lose site of the fact the DVCA have caused this by their stupidity in changing the comp structure a few years ago.

C Grade is seconds. F Grade is 3rds and 4ths. Favrin once made a double ton in G grade. G grade is a lot of clubs' 4ths, 5ths and 6ths. Big difference.

I like it, I've suggested that we propose this at the next AGM. I'm not on committee so can't guarantee anything.

Clubs have knocked back similar proposals a number of times in the past - but that was a long time ago.
The different grade structure might lead to a change in attitude now.

Arvo tea standards really need to lift I think. I reckon a few of our blokes are getting tired of making a pretty good effort at home games only to get served up melted chocolate biscuits and 4 packs of donuts when playing away.

And in F1, Diamond Creek have picked Michael Hansen. Fun times in F Grade.

Good luck to those openers, facing a fairly current BS opening bowler.

Not sure we can fault Baker playing in F3 if he wants a game with his son. He hasn't played for a few years and Keys did the same thing for the Stars...I remember as he got me out with quite possibly the crappiest ball he has ever bowled and I gloved it down leg side!

To be fair, Bakes is 48 years old. At what age does he get away with playing lower grades without people having a whinge ?

Just a small shout out to a kid playing his 1st senior game yesterday in G4.

Son of OCA - Brayden O'Connor played (without his dad).

Brayden is the keeper in the Victoria School State team.

He batted at 5, unfortunately smoked a full toss to short cover for a quack.

He wasnt required to keep so the skipper gave him an opportunity to bowl his leggies. 6 for 25 of 5 overs. Not a made debut.

Quality family, quality kid. He’ll have a very bright future both as a sportsman and person. I dare say we won’t be seeing much of him in the DVCA.
