Seca - Sth East Ca 17/18

How is Bayside a 2 team comp. Bonbeach, South Caulfield , Beaumaris and Bentleigh who have a few injuries. It will only get better in time. Subbies have no promotion or relegation , so it's a dead comp. Your right about the VTCA , MCA is a social comp and Premier as you say should be cut back to 12 teams.
By that logic, so is District cricket. If they had a promotion /relegation system it would work well. The only problem is that relegated District clubs would not be able to compete with the money some subby clubs throw around. Cricket is in a mess, but rather fix the problems at the top, they go after SECA.

Fantastic day yesterday at Parkdale for the '' Battle of Bayside '' between CSB and SECA with SECA prevailing in a close and interesting game. I think the CSB boys might have been a bit arrogant as most turf comps consider Synthetic a bit sub standard but rest assured the SECA boys looked every bit as accomplished as their highly rated opponents. Well done to all concerned and to the Parkdale CC for hosting the day. Well done to the SECA lads, very well played.

Couldn't make it due to club function , but told by all in attendance it was a great day and the game was a beauty and played in good spirit. Didn't help CSB that the opening bowler did his hammy . But congrats to SECA and lets hope these games continue , with next years game on a SECA ground.

Doubtful that the opening bowler who did his hammy would have made a huge difference at all, rumour was that his club told him to take it easy and weren't exactly over the moon about him playing in the game, so probably wouldn't have bowled. SECA clubs already lining up to host the game next season.

Crap , he was very keen to play , believe me I know. He had a twinge while batting. Bowling at over 130 he would have had them jumping and I know a few of the SECA boys were happy he didn't bowl.
I also hear the East Sandy lads rocked up with they're own eskies , poor form as usual.

Fair call then '' believe me I know '' hope he gets through the rest of season with his twinge ? Yeah at 130 he would have been a handful, but I still doubt he would have been going flat out, '' not in his contract '' . Wasn't privy to the Sandy blokes as I was being entertained in the corporates, but they do travel well with their mobile eskies and then whinge when their bar is not supported.

After knocking off the top team in the final round of the home and away, Moorabbin West in a knockout final, are barely able to bat 29 overs in a final. 9/51 at one stage. Another appalling result to be added to their litany of final failures.

They're an interesting case study, aren't they Clocker? These type of performances have been ingrained in the club's culture for a number of seasons. My take on it though, is slightly different. This is a club who is by and large made up of C and D grade cricketers and I mean that with the utmost respect for the playing group. Put their first XI in a Longmuir club and most players are probably playing seconds or thirds. The results that they are able to reguarly produce in the home and away season are terrific. They do however, get found out on the big stage when there is everything to play for; similar to a performance anxiety. So how do you overcome this? Recruiting is very difficult for Moorabbin West. Their facilities are sub par, their ground is forever in terrible shape and their culture is seen as 'questionable' to most on the outside looking in. It's very difficult and I'm not quite sure how they will overcome this, if ever. It may be a generational thing, where hopefully the juniors coming through will change the cultural direction of the club. Credit to them for another outstanding home and away season.

Dont know much about the club, but it looks like they dont have juniors, dont think they have a Blasters program - and there are plenty of other clubs nearby doing really well in that regard
Had heard they were coming up for a significant anniversary and that was pretty much the only thing holding them together - you guys might know more about that.

Thanks to everybody who made the effort to help out the 2s this year . It’s been a hard slog not winning a game but when we really played 3/4 qtrs of the season with 7 & 8 players it makes it difficult to stop scores of under 300 . But to the boys credit they fought it out to the end and twice we required less than 10 runs to win at the end but again with 7-8 players we ran out of wickets . Thanks to the Committed 7-8 although we haven’t had the results we wanted again we have had a heap of fun and it showed me you can lose and have a ball doing it .

They have had their fair share of decent players over the years to get the job done. Mentally weak, lack structures and the team and self-discipline required to get the job done. Agree with you about their culture and some of their supporters who have caused them a lot of grief over the years. If I recall correctly there was a huge brawl at Widdop with East Sandy supporters, and someone getting thrown through a glass window. There was another brawl against Bentleigh Uniting when they playing at Mackie (there is the trifecta).

To their credit, they manage to pick themselves up each year and get back into it. The fact that Steve Worker who must be in his 40's can still come out and make 32 n.o batting at 8, shows that it can be done if you are prepared to do the work. He has carried them for years, and once again has shown them how it is done.

Probably better they do not win a flag, as they could not realistically be promoted to Longmuir. One bad year where you get hammered week in and week out can destroy a club.

Probably sums up the state of cricket at the moment. Kids have so many options to choose from. Standing in the hot sun chasing a ball is probably not up there, when you can play basketball, in air conditioned indoor arena's.

With all this hysteria about climate change, cricket may well become a game that becomes extinct in 20-30 years, or be forced to play in the evenings. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?

I like your trifecta , in which order can I take them.

In response to the plight of the Westers, they keep hanging on but they will merge soon with a club in close proximity. Maybe one more season for their Anniversary then merge which could be a good move to stay viable while still keeping their ground and facilities. Strategically getting on the front foot with these ideas will help to create a stronger club all round. Clocker mentions a trifecta of negative issues but there are a number of other clubs who have given some grief to the SECA over the last few years, not that sure about the Westers being the worst.

How did that go from a ordinary clubs poor finals performance to climate change and the extinction of the game.. wow R.I.P. cricket and mankind. (Sorry womankind aswell) gotta be equal

Good question Troy, old Clocker has obviously been massively affected over the years and probably been affected by the sun. He does go off tangent sometimes but also makes some relevant points with regards to how SECA execs have been performing which results to on-field issues with some clubs.

In all fairness the matters I raised did occur quite a while back. Definitely a hatred of sorts between the Westars and East Sandy supporters back in the day. Never took much to set them off against each other. Mackie were pretty grubby in their prime on and off the field.

Based on my observations, clubs are struggling with juniors, and the motivation of kids to play cricket has waned in the past 5 years. The heat has a lot to do with that. Parents get worried about their little princes running around getting dehydrated, plus the risk of melanoma. If you believe all of the Green hysteria, then temperatures are on the increase and cricket's future as a viable day sport has to be questioned.

Interesting how there are quite a few clubs in that scenario all within the same area. Moorabbin West, Hampton Central, Hampton United. Then you have Carnegie South seriously struggling as well. Mergers rarely end well unless there is a strong plan in place that will ensure that the failures of the stand-alone clubs are not repeated. To do that, you need capable and committed people on the committee's, and therein lies the problem, finding said people. There are going to be interesting times in the next few years for a number of clubs, and for cricket in the area.

The marauding vandals of West Bentleigh were known to enjoy themselves at times. Seem to recall an incident involving a couch at a golf club being removed and vandalized. If they get up and win the flag this year, we could see a repeat of the excesses of days gone by.
