Barclay Shield 18/19

From the players involved the story goes, Johnson was seen by the batsmen dropping sand on the pitch between overs as he crossed. The batsman mentioned it to the umpire who then started watching and he soon did it again. Then came the 5 runs and the report. Blatant cheating and gets to play the next week, he should get deported

If this is true what a fn disgrace but seeing who their captain is I’m not surprised. Correct me if I’m wrong but Isn’t the captain the bloke who ran a Bundoora batsman out last year after he picked the ball up and handed it to him??

If this is true regarding sand and taking it on field and then dropping it then the DVCA need to give the match review guys the ass. This is a 4 to 8 matches if this is fact at the very least. I heard it was rocks being flicked on the pitch but if the sand story is true then it’s an absolute joke the penalty. He and the Captain should be gone for half a season imo

Sad thing is I doubt a bit of sand on the pitch would make the slightest difference. If you're going to cheat, at least do something effective!

Bit of mayo on that (the ball wasn't picked up and handed to him) but yes, the captain is the one that ran him out. As bad as that was IMO, this is 100 times worse although hard to blame anyone else except the person who committed the act. I understand the captain is responsible for the behaviour of the team but if Tim didn't know, not sure what he can do to stop it. It is not something you'd be looking out for and totally different to not putting a stop to sledging etc.......

Agree with other posters though, if Johnson was found guilty of this, no chance he should be allowed to play in the GF

Isn't a executive member from macleod ?

I remember back in the day when they were converting grounds to sand base. Pitches would get covered in sand and it would stuff the ball up completely.

The ball would get scuffed up very early and by the end of the day there was no stitches left on the ball.

If anything, sand on the pitch would disadvantage the bowlers!

Not sure of the current set up. Can say though even if there was, the tribunal is run independent from the executive. I've sat on 3 or 4 cases previously as well as being an advocate for a charged player and they were all at arms length from the DVCA executive.

Did this case even go to the tribunal or was it a set penalty and first offence only constituted a warning?

Diamond Creek & Campbell BOG.

Creek had their slip up last week and got away with it, wont be letting themselves do that again and like Riverside before them will cap off the perfect season with a flag.

So after bagging Burton for years maybe he’s a lot smarter than we think to move away from the dishonest and cheating Macleod. IMO creek will win by 9 wickets

They classified it under a certain charge hence early plea and reprimand!
It should have gone straight to the tribunal and been charged with deliberately attempting to change the condition of the wicket. It’s a disgraceful act and warrants at least 4-6 matches. It was a premediatated decision and one that a player doesn’t make himself with discussing with the captain at the very least. Captain should get the same as well. Discussing it around the table tonight at the club and not one bloke disagreed with a minimum of 4 matches and the captain as well. The DVCA have got this completely wrong and have let the clubs and comp down on this one!

They have some work to do
Creek should never be written off but I can't see them chasing 275. Rob Wise took over another GF at Plenty Park, super knock and I'll back him to be the key in the defense as well. Can't see the brothers allowing 275, they'll bowl 25 each minimum.

This is pretty much what I was thinking.

For Creek to win Benney needs to slog 40+ to get them up and running, and then one of McLean or Adams needs 100+ and to bat the majority of the day.
