A five man pace attack for the Windies with Jason Holder playing as an all-rounder at number six while Veerasammy Permaul is back for his first home test in seven years. John Campbell gets a chance to cement an opening spot and Shamarh Brooks is also presented an opportunity in the middle order. England are without Ollie Robinson who is out with a back spasm, Chris Woakes and Craig Overton are set to share the new ball. Alex Lees is in the side on debut while Dan Lawrence slots in at number four having not played any of the test matches on the recent Ashes tour.

Play starts at 10am local time (2pm UTC).

England lose their first wicket, Lees LBW to Roach for four. It was a length delivery that ducked back in and trapped Lees in front. He reviews, the only chance he had was that it pitched outside the line but it was deemed umpire's call so he has to go.

England 1/12 after 2.3 overs.

Writing on the wall now for the old firm of Broad/Anderson. Big job for their replacements as those two have left quite an imposing legacy.
 
In diabolical trouble at 4/60 but some undisciplined bowling let England off the hook. Excellent century by Bairstow with good support from Foakes and Woakes.
 
England slid to 4/48 with Zak Crawley edging behind off Jayden Seales with Da Silva taking a brilliant catch behind the stumps, Joe Root shouldered arms to Kemar Roach to one that semaed back in and then Dan Lawrence edged to second slip off Jason Holder to leave England in a lot of trouble.

However, Jonny Bairstow dug in hard and was supported by the trio of Stokes, Foakes and Woakes to get England to a commendable 6/268 by stumps thanks to some good batting and some not so good bowling. England will be hoping for 300+ when play resumes in just under 20 minutes.

Perhaps although I did read that neither had had their cards marked or had been struck off from being considered for future series. I find the decision to leave them out odd considering Anderson averaged 23.37 with the ball (eight wickets) in the Ashes while Broad had an average of 26.30 (13 wickets) so it is not as if they bowled poorly. Anderson was also conceding less than two runs than over too. It may be a cause of giving some of the younger guys a go overseas before the coming home summer for them.

I do agree that replacing them is going to be very difficult though and it is not going to be an easy decision to make. I would be surprised if both were phased out of the side at the same time given what they have contributed to the team over the last 15+ years.

I did read that and I can't say I disagree with them. Both players had a decent series compared to Chris Woakes who took six wickets at 55.33, Woakes obviously adds a lot with the bat but England need their top six to contribute a lot more.
 
England finish on 311. Bairstow 140. In reply plenty of starts by the Windies. The skipper Brathwaite with a fine 55. Windies 4-202 at stumps.
 
West Indies managed to roll England relatively quickly yesterday for 311, they didn't score 300 or more against Australia for the entire Ashes series. West Indies started well in reply but wobbled in the afternoon session a bit before Nkrumah Bonner and Jason Holder steadied the ship with an unbeaten 75 run partnership.

Plenty to do today for the Windies, they'll be hoping for 300+ and a nice lead once play gets underway in just over 10 minutes.

He played three matches. His strike rate (78.0) wasn't great but he was economical, almost a run an over better than any of the other England bowlers. Will be interesting to see who England go with for their home summer once it gets underway.
 
Stokes gets Holder early in the day, edging behind to Foakes after being in two minds whether to play or not.

West Indies are 5/206, still 105 runs behind. Joshua Da Silva is in now, a lot rests of these two to get West Indies as close as possible to England's first innings total.
 
Bonner's century has given the Caribbeans wings as they pass the Poms score. The Jamaican at 33 seems a late Test bloomer but his conversion rate is excellent with 2 tons and 3 halves from nine matches.

Well, that didn't last long. Seales falls LBW to Leach on the third ball of the day, not before two byes were conceded on the first ball of day four. West Indies are all out for 375, leading by 64 runs.

A short innings break now before England commence their second innings.
 
England lose their first wicket with Lees falling LBW to Roach. It was full and straight and Lees played around his front pad. He reviews but it's three reds with the ball hitting leg stump.

England 1/24, trailing by 40 runs.
 
England reach lunch at 1/72 from 24 overs, leading by eight runs. Zak Crawley has looked good for his 45 so far while Joe Root has progressed to 20 not out.

There doesn't seem to be much in the pitch but the Windies' bowling attack were extracting some swing at the beginning of the innings. Certainly an interesting part of the game at the moment with two sessions to play today.
 
Not much in the deck at all with the Poms batting themselves into a strong position at stumps. 2/217.. a 153 run lead with a day to play.
 
England are 6/320, leading by 256 runs at the moment. Dan Lawrence fell for 36 chasing quick runs, Joe Root was bowled courtesy of some reverse swing from Alzarri Joseph for 109, Ben Stokes was also dismissed look to score quickly and miscued a slower ball while Ben Foakes chopped on a delivery from Joseph.

England are trying to build a lead as quickly as possible in order to make a declaration. Still 77.1 overs left in the day at the moment so there is some time for a result.
