His statement is a classic example of right-wing populists twisting facts to their liking thus showing the ideology of that circle while blaming people with different views for an allegedly ideology-driven policy and decisions. Talking about an alleged "trade deficit" that needs to be reduced, Trump does not say that a) contrary to his view, it is not a negative but is advantageous to the US, and b) he only refers to the trade deficit of industrial goods and ignores the fact that the trade deficit of services is strongly in favour of the US. This is what populists do: telling half truths and relying on factoids.Trump and his chorus are saying the rest of the World is raping and pillaging the US Economy. Yes, many of the US's imports are from foreign nations, but why is that?
Well, many US industries outsourced their manufacturing to Nation's with cheaper Labour costs. It was to make lots of moneyfor the US Capitalists.
So the trade inbalance was mostly the US's own fault, not the third world countries where US money looked to for their big profits. Meagre prices to pay for their manufacturing to be sold in the US for hugely inflated prices. Like Nike shoes.
My modest super nest egg has been cracked open dripping $$$$$ into the ether because of one man. One man.
Don't worry about your nest egg, Terry. As long as you don't need to sell it, it's just book losses. Although part of my portfolio is also slightly in the red, I'm taking advantage of the "political bloodshed" at the stock exchange by both averaging down and going on a shopping spree. There'll be a time after Trump and the tariff war.

Hopefully the stock markets and my super balance will claw back the losses.

I'm getting dizzy watching Trump's roundabouts and U turns. Seems now there'll be no tariffs on Chinese made i-phones as the US has little ability to manufacture the phones and other IT equipment.
Would anyone in the US pay $5,000 for an i-phone 16? My new Motorola phone cost me $29 on a 2 year plan. 128gb storage, SD card and 8gb of ram.
I just heard 80% of i-phones are made in Chi-nah and 20% in Vietnam, both countries hit with draconian Trump Tariffs.
Shot in the foot again by a pretend self called genius. Not!
What if China and Vietnam decided to double the costs of their i-phones to the US? Turmup has little concept of how interwinded globalmarkets are and almost zero knowledge of Economics and how destructive tariffs are to all.

Yes, I heard his hollow boasts. He likes to boast and like the majority of world leaders, I find his narsissitic character, chaotic manner, stupidity and lies destructive to the whole planet. And a felon, sexual abuser, fraudster, surrounded by dumb "Yes People" humming away in his personal echo chamber".
The genius is now back peddling with dubious rhetoric as is the norm.
What saddens me most is the affect Trump's greed and bs will do to the world's efforts combating Global Warming. It'll keep getting hotter, already over the once agreed target of +1.5 C, and rising with some unexpected flow on consequences, some revealing themselves now, with more surprises to come, no doubt.
Greenland will thaw rising sea levels but revealing perhaps a lovely really big island rich in resources. Nice real estate.

put their own draconian tariffs on us recently when Morrison put his gumboot in his mouth. We found new markets which annoyed China pointing lots of fingers from their attack dogs.'RIght back at you shysters.
I remember but believe China did learn a good lesson about the repercussions of tariffs affecting the instigator the most.
Duh! Economics 101. Our gorgeous pristine export Lobster trade with China a big loser. For all but common folk like me.
Anyway, in China's search for new markets our Australia will get even cheaper products from China. Nice.
