The Lounge 2

What a dreadful atrocity by Islamists again who, if they are not stopped, unscrupulously take the lives of dozens of people. In this case, it happened not too far away from where Craig lives.
Is this in the area, Craig?

We were lucky that five Islamists could be stopped from killing Christmas market visitors with a car. That is the reason why I declined an invitation for a get-together in a hut on our Christmas Market.

But the heroism of some Aussies was brilliant... That brave bloke who disarmed the killer did get shot twice himself, shoulder and hand. He is a Syrian Australian.
👏
He deserves high acclaim and clearly showed that not all Muslims are vicious psychotic dogs. I hope he gets a medal.

Here here. The brave Aussie Syrian tackled the cowardly father and wrestled the shot gun from him and aimed it at the retreating terrorist. Wonder if the hero had a mind to shoot the dog. Anyway he did not last long as he was shot and later killed by police while the son he likely radicalized is in a coma in hospital.

Also why did the bastards target a child, 10 yr old Matilda (you cant have a more Aussie name than that) who had barely started her life. Tragic.
My niece just had a baby girl 7 weeks ago and she named her child Matilda, now that's very eerie.

Ussie is trying to save his test career here.
Didn't he get 82 runs from memory. He can turn it on but almost all have rough patches. He's getting on a bit in years which is a factor I guess. 38 ain't too old for a cricket player.

Nice to see Lyon back and Carey doing so well batting.
I've heard say Carey is the World's best wicket keeper. He sure has lightning reflexes.
Cummings coming back too, and in quick time given his injury.

That footage went viral; I saw it, too. What a courageous bloke. :thumbsu:
There were a lot of heroic acts that day too like the Surf Life Savers running into the killing zone to tend to the wounded, under fire. Many panicked people ran into the water to escape and subsequently some got into difficulty in the water.
The senior life guards were busy mostly giving first aid assistance to the many wounded, so they sent their juniors into the sea with boards to rescue swimmers in difficulty, which they did excellently. Surf boards were also used as stretchers.

So many tales of bravery but Ahmed al-Ahmed's was incredibly courageous wresting the long shot gun from that filthy devil's grasp.

My post was written before his well-played 82 which could have easily been only 5 had that pom slip fielder taken his catch.
Don't get me wrong I am an Ussie fan, but he's just turned 39 today 18th Dec HB to him and he's really at the Twight light end of his good career. The selectors really should be searching for a younger talent around Australia who'll be his future replacement for the next 10 to 15 years so they don't find themselves in a predicament of letting an older player hang around too long past his use by date just because his past record.

Really impressive how some people unselfishly function in such life-threatening situations no matter where things happen.

Yes, I'd run out of petrol in the back of nowhere because my Surveyor boss told me I had a full Reserve petrol tank ...
He was wrong about that with one of our ChainMen forgetting to fill it, and no drinking water either!
Good to hear that you came out fine from this dire situation. I assume that I'd have checked the essentials myself since the very word outback demands my respect. As a local one tends to underrate the potential impact of situations 'cos one gets used to them. Last year when going north my wife got really upset when I told her that we should be refuelling the car soon but the nav indicated that there wouldn't be such a chance for quite some time. We managed to get fuel but it was that uncertainty she didn't want to experience.

Terry there is a Baggy Green cricket thread mate.

Ussie will either retire or be pushed after this series. That 82 on an easy batting pitch guarantees him the remaining two matches. Nah 38 is old for a cricketer when your powers like hand/eye co ordination are fast diminishing. A drop in form then follows and he has had a poor last 12months.
