The Serious Discussion Thread.

Proof Terry Labor governed states are our nations worst economically. I have always maintained that Socialists make poor economic managers.
  • Queensland is the nation’s overall best performing state, with the lowest state debt burden and best energy price outcomes (LIB)
  • Tasmania moved up to be the nation’s overall second-best performing state, leading the nation in per capita state economic growth, wages growth, productivity growth and with the lowest rental costs. (LIB)
  • Western Australia slipped from first to third. While still having the nation’s lowest tax burden, highest jobs growth and best retail trade conditions, deteriorating state economic growth, wages growth, productivity growth, and rental costs are concerning. (LAB)
  • South Australia slipped from second in 2024 to fourth off the back of the nation’s worst outcomes in energy prices. (LAB)
  • Victoria was unsurprisingly the second worst performing state in the nation, still with the highest state tax and debt burdens, and poor state economic and jobs growth. (LAB)
  • New South Wales fell to be the worst overall performing state in the nation with the highest rental costs and the weakest retail trade. (LAB)

US President Donald Trump has said the US navy will "immediately" begin a blockade to stop ships from entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz, after US-Iran peace talks in Pakistan ended without an agreement.
Trump sought to exert strategic control over the waterway responsible for the transportation of 20 per cent of global oil supplies before the war, hoping to take away Iran's key source of economic leverage in the fighting.
The president added that he has "instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran".

And about time Trump. This I agree with. Cuts off Irans major economic lifeline. But with oil expected to rise further in the short term, it is also helping his mate Putins lifeline to continue the Ukraine War. This I dont condone.😡

It's still a dog's dinner Craig. Trump likes Putin but Russia and China are supplying weapons to Iran. It's all very confusing.
Best we leave it to the Warmongers doing what they do worst.
I bet bets are being made, especially on the Stock exchanges, with insider knowledge of Trump's yoyo messages ...💸

No comment on this Terry and you being a bit of a pinko. I will say tho that your state has had the best run economy over all other LABOR states, only now dropping from #1, while my State is becoming a basket case under Minns, who I figured was going a decent job until I read this. Now we have hit rock bottom even worse that those Viccos that were led by a rabid Commo a few yrs back, Chairman Dan Andrews....

It's ok if we differ politically Craig. Just like I am with my two daughters who both vote "One Nation".

My WA has drifted into more a Labor state, with good and bad directions. For example I'm annoyed WA Labor is poorly managing Health when WA's coffers are over flowing.
And dire housing issues with homeless people sleeping on pavements. That's awful.

Dutton got up my nose, as did Taylor, but I'm starting to like Angus in his new role. I had a laugh when Angus got stern on migrants and Pauline got annoyed saying the Libs were trying to steal their thunder straying into One Nations Policies and stances! 😅
All's fair in Politics that way! It's called Democracy.

My youngest wants to see Pauline Hanson as Australia's PM!

As for Migrants needing to respect Australian values, I mostly agree, our laws too, and a reasonable command of our English Language Aussie style.

This is Trump's thuggish pic when the new Pope was elected and chose to be called Pope Leo XIV.

Trump may not understand what "XIV" means....

This is Turnup's latest insult to Christianity. It's profane.

Some Wag said the guy Trump's healing looks like Jeffery Epstein. 🤣

There's been a lot of chatter about Trump's declining mental
facilities.
He's already worse than Biden was, at the "end" of his term.
For Trumps spiteful barbs about Biden's mental decline Trump deserves no pity going bonkers. Sooner the better.
Seriously, the whole world can't afford to have Trump carrying on and on as he does.

Spare us. I want her to retire and hand the reins to Barnaby. I may even vote for them next election, that is only if they drop their support for a constitutional monarchy. I figured Barnaby was a certain Republican..

Barnaby would be a better choice than Pauline I reckon too.
I heard him speak very well on the radio the other day. He's got a broad knowledge and experience of many things. He is also a former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and served as leader of the National Party.
He's also a lovable Larakin, a bit like Hawke was.

I checked out if Barnaby is "Pro Republican" Craig and l thought like you he was. We're both wrong!
This is what I read:

Republican Australia
Based on developments as of late 2025 and early 2026, Barnaby Joyce is not typically associated with the "Republican" movement in Australia (which seeks to replace the British monarch with an Australian head of state). Instead, he is a staunch socially conservative figure.
Wikipedia
Following his departure from the National Party in late 2025, he joined the One Nation party, positioning himself further to the right of mainstream Australian politics.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Key aspects of his political stance:
  • Ideology: He has described himself as an "agrarian socialist" or a "true conservative".
  • One Nation: In December 2025, Joyce joined Pauline Hanson's One Nation, stating his values were better aligned with them than the Nationals, focusing on concerns over renewable energy, immigration, and family values.
  • Political Alignments: He has praised the "global right-wing populism movement" and has been compared to US political figures, particularly after suggesting Australia should adopt a policy recognizing only two genders.
  • Positions: He is socially conservative, opposing same-sex marriage and abortion, and is a strong supporter of domestic coal and agricultural interests.

I like him more now I know he's a Monarchist like me.
What about you Craig?
We're a mixed bunch alright.

What if Barnaby was offered the symbolic role as President of Australia, would he succumb to that lure? He'd be a shoe in with me.
Nah! I bet he'd turn his nose up at that. He's no ponce, what you see is what you get.

How about as a One Nation PM of Australia.
Their numbers are surging upwards now with their Populist hard Right wing political ideologies. Even ahead of the Libs/ Nationals shakey coalitional combined.
I wonder what Clive Palmer is making of these tubulent waters?

Nice to see encouraging calls for Australian self resilience, industry, even opening up Oil drilling again in this age of insecurity.
Nice also to see our Gas Exporters ⛽️ having to first reserve sufficient supplies for local Australian markets, (like we in WA did decades ago and got critised for) and then to pay a 25% export tax on top of Royalties. Hmnn? 🤔 ouch!
Angry Angus says that will destroy the industry? I agree with him to a point, maybe 10%, 15% ? Ambit claims... ? similar to other countries export taxes, but by increments ...surely?

I wonder what Clive Palmer is making of these tubulent waters? Dare I say maybe his huge wealth could push One Nation into a serious contender position.
Our Pauline should send him her best fish and chips, daily.🍟🐟

Time we hardened up our own self interests for sure.

Yeh. Lets not kill the goose that lays the golden egg you spendthrift socialists. Another budget coming up. What mess will Chalmers make with this one. Just read, (prob a leak) that they are slugging the over 65s with a huge rise in private insurance premiums to pay for aged care infrastructure upgrades. Bloody hell why slug the poor old pensioner like us who are struggling to make do as it is. Why not hit the hi end market instead as that is usually what you socialists do. I know why, their ploy is to further degrade private health as this is becoming a luxury for the old aged. Remember Chalmers and Albo we oldies vote too!!

We Baby boomers are sucking up a lot of GDP as predicted and some cuts are justified for sure.
I still hear conflicting arguments about all sorts of finance positions, above my pay grade.

Still, I totally agree we need to create stringent export taxes on our Coal and especially GAS. Just like other countries.

As for a third oil processing facility, I've heard varying opinions, most pro tho. Too right in this age of self dependence,

The Global Potty Orange Liability has made a dreadful mess of so many things. Best to stop listening to his meanandering verbiage, if one can... his words still sea-saw the global markets. Even perhaps enabling insider trading, as recently speculated.

Actually, I like tripe n onions in a white sauce. Fried kidneys but never liver. Yuck!
My old Irish mum made me Ox tongue school sandwiches that freaked out thez Aussies kids.

Just saw this, satirical thing I hope, for Christ's sake of such dystopian crap 💩5l

Either appointment would satisfy me Terry. Our first President, I think Barnaby the kid from Tamworth would succumb to the lure as deep down he is probably a progressive.
