Yes I was a bit surprised also. Thought he would at least get a light sentence but I guess the "extreme denial, say little" strategy paid off for Cairns in the end..

I don't think it was just the pink ball that helped the bowlers. I thought it was an excellent pitch as well. The grass allowed the ball to seam off the pitch and a little turn and bounce for the spinners. If more pitches were like that, then there might be lower scores with the red ball also.

I quite often sympathize with umpires when they make a wrong decision on the park as I have done a bit of umpiring...but how can you make such a shocking decision when you are upstairs with a million replays on offer and can take your time with the decision??
