I must be going blind. I am sure I read that the innings of the team batting second is to be closed immediately, if it overtakes the score of the team batting first. But I can't find that rule anywhere in the PDF I downloaded. Can anybody tell me the rule number?
Yes. In bold type at the top of the PDF containing these rules it says "This includes a scheduled One Day Game, and a Two Day Game that has reverted to a One Day Game."
Hampton won the first game, defeating Bonbeach who finished the season second last, and drew the last one in a round which was almost universally washed out. Although their scores suggest improvement as the season progressed, I think that's a long way from "weren't far off".
Not quite right. In 10/11 Murrumbeena and Parkdale were defeated in the semi-finals in South A, but played last year in South. However that was a little different, as the Southern grades were reduced from three to two, so it was more of a restructure than a simple promotion.
East Malvern? I...
Ah right, missed the significance of Moorabbin Park. With OMs going up, and nobody coming down from Senior to South (there was a rumour that Altona North might be doing that) there was room for one more. Given that, I can't help...
Another one was Mordialloc, who won a flag in South A (with the next grade up being Senior A from memory, a cross-Melbourne grade). They successfully argued against promotion, and promptly won the flag again the next year. Finally promoted, my memory says they played one season, and then left...
The website I am looking at has the North A Division listed. On the left, on the second row:
NORTH A DIVISION
Matthew Montebello - St.Albans
Adam Brodie - East Keilor ( C & w/k)
Charlie Swallow - Laverton
Praneeth Jayasundera - Jacana
Mark Logan - Laverton
Ben Robertson - East Keilor
Glen...
I have heard it suggested too - within an hour or two of the final. Other people having a beer with me commented that the association will no longer allow a team to choose not to be promoted. I don't know whether there is any such rule, but hearing the OMs guys talking over the last few weekends...
Yes, sadly the batting of Beaumaris looked well short of Senior Division standard in this game. Yarraville Club batted for a further maybe 14 overs, with the ninth-wicket partnership extending to nearly 80. Needing 290 to win in 60-something overs, Beauy were all out for 119. Hewitt lasted two...
The last day saw OM dismissed for 167, leaving PM 171 to win in 62 or so overs. They were a good chance for a long time, but nobody was able to stay in and bat with Daykin, who made 67 and batted very sensibly until he got down towards the end of the order. By then the run rate was around 4rpo...
Well YCCC certainly didn't put the game out of reach by tea. In fact, at 8/135 Beaumaris were looking at a target of not much more than 200 - but then the renowned Yarravile tail took over and added 40-odd runs, Now with a lead of 250 and a couple of wickets in the bank YCCC are well placed. The...
Yes. I think we can ignore any Team of the Year which has four Mentone players. That team finished 8th on the ladder (only one spot above relegation). It's a wind-up...
Meanwhile, it's game-on at South Caulfield. OMs have a lead of 152 with four wickets in hand. Should be an interesting day...
Maybe. Last weekend there was a 100+ partnership in a score of 205. I guess Beauy will be hoping to get early wickets again (YCCC were 3/47 last week) and then keep going taking wickets. Can't see it happening myself, but I would like the game to go into the fourth day, to give me something to...
No thoughts other than to agree completely. It was interesting that Yarraville Club scored almost 200 on the Saturday, but lost nine wickets doing so. They wouldn't want to lose all their wickets again in 80 overs or so again, as that might just open the door a tiny little bit. I suspect they...
I would expect one of the North Division teams to be relocated south of the river to keep the even number of teams in South. Two teams will come down into North from Senior Division, one team will go from North to Senior, one team will go from North to South, and there will be two up and down...
Moving on the Final.
My gut feeling was that Port's batting is stronger than OMs, but the bowling for both is pretty much comparable.
I checked out the ladder, and over the season (including the semi) Port have scored almost 1,000 more runs than OM - their team batting average is 25.5...
