Hey,
A lot of us were in this position at some point or the other. Credit to Dave (someblokecalleddave) for formalizing this condition and calling it the googly syndrome. Discussion over at http://bigcricket.com/community/threads/googly-syndrome.56366/ might be helpful to you.
Cheers,
shrek
In cricket, running is all about trust and communication.
There are only three calls - Yes, No and Wait and always the batsman facing the ball makes the call. In other words - for the first run, if the ball goes behind the wickets, the runner calls, in front of the wickets, the batsman calls...
Guys,
We have a couple of bats from the last season that are still in good shape, but the wood has become a little dry (as it happens quite normally). These bats have had facing put on them for protection. Do you guys usually peel off the old facing, oil, recondition before every season? or...
On the same note - there are leg spinners who tend to generate all of their revs by using just the wrist. These leggies don't have the bleeding finger/callous problem at all.
Then there are spinners who will rip it off the spinning finger (like an offie would) and greater the amount of friction...
I've always found myself longing to be at the non-striker's end at the start of my innings. That way I can run a few for the batsman by when my feet should start moving automatically.
Of course, that is not always possible, so what I tend to do is as soon as I get in, go to the crease and run a...
Good work there, but it looks like the only batsmen he's hunting down are the good ones.
Last season, there was a similar problem with our lead offspinner. He kept beating most of the batsmen, but he was so good that none would get out. You had to be good enough, to actually get out. The...
One aspect of Tahir's bowling I didn't like was that he bowls too many googlies. Even in the test match, I could count atleast (if not more) one googly every over.
Exactly - Simple as that. That is also the reason why all spinners are taught to try and keep the seam pointing towards the slips. (which would roughly be 52-54 on the clock). Even the pdf that I posted in the topspin thread earlier talks about a variety of "drift and swerve" as two different...
Call me a devil's advocate, but I feel it is better if you wait for a while before inducting him into the 20/20. While it provides a good opportunity to bowl more against aggressive batsmen, it can also be a double-edged sword. Especially for a leggie, who should be allowed the leeway of bowling...
He uses the index finger to create that additional friction against which the ball is spun. If you just roll fingers down the back of the ball, it will be similar to a medium pacer's bowling, so won't keep as low
Guys,
Answering the question - what angle gives most drift, most dip - Take a look at this http://vaughan.roberts.name/sites/default/files/Physics%20of%20bowling%20cricket%20balls%20-%20Part5.pdf
Guys,
Look at this - You might find this very interesting. http://www.bcci.tv/bcci/bccitv/community/video/videoindex/4eb8dbb56e233#
A Carrom ball bowled with quite a bit of backspin on it, behaves as we all know the flipper should. Definitely an option for all the finger spinners out here
Very interesting guys. I think this is a "flipper" or if you guys have read the Twirlymen, this is what he describes as the "Rajan's mystery ball" Even if you haven't read the entire book, just look at description of the mystery delivery.
It is basically a flipper that is bowled on the seam...
I've used manuka honey that healed things up really quickly. Calamine lotion has also been suggested.
Btw my dibbly-dobblies were quite effective- got 8-0-26-1 which should have been 8-0-21-3 really. But, I'm back to bowling legbreaks this week as my spinning finger has regained strength and I...
I was very tempted to do that yesterday itself, but I won't for two reasons - 1) the strain it puts on my shoulder. 2) I got over my googly syndrome only last year, I don't want to have to work one year to get my turn back. For now, I'm bowling fast off cutters, maybe mix a few leg cutters in...
I'm flirting with the dark side now. Got hit on my spinning finger while keeping last weekend. Apparently the ligament on the second knuckle has taken a hit and while bowling it is unable to take as much pressure and consequently I'm unable to bowl at my best. Our team also lacks any medium...
Bosie,
You have my eternal gratitude, until now I had been trying to correct various aspects of my bowling without forcing myself to pivot as I had been thinking that pivot is more about fizz than about control. After reading your posts, I went back to nets to try it out and lo! both the waist...
Fielders 5,6,3 looked like those put to save boundaries to me. Silly point is really useless unless you have really good control over length.
That said, it is important to analyse the shots that are being hit in the cow corner ( fielder no:6), If it is a slog sweep, perhaps putting a wider long...
