Old Bats Reconditioning

Guys,

We have a couple of bats from the last season that are still in good shape, but the wood has become a little dry (as it happens quite normally). These bats have had facing put on them for protection. Do you guys usually peel off the old facing, oil, recondition before every season? or try to apply oil from places that facing doesn't cover?

Thanks

Depends.

Best to remove covers, sand, oil and then re-face. Failing that, just oil the exposed areas.

Thanks,

First time a bat has lasted more than one season and I was hoping to verify that idea before making a huge mistake.

It does depend on the bat - if you're not sure post a picture or two and I'll give you a better idea. Remember to take the covers off gently; too quick and you might lift the wood.
