While standing around with a bunch of old players, watching the current day crop have a practice match on the first Saturday in October (again), the question was raised: how long since we last played on what is nominally day 1 of the season. Turns out the last time the 1st XI played on that day...
I also see the Div 6 is now all one day games. Wonder why it doesn't have "One Day" in the name? It consiste entirely of club's 3rd XIs. Not certain all of the clubs supported this change.
I wonder how the team is selected - it was once done by the captain of each team selecting their best team (maybe from the other clubs, not there's). Is that still the case? How is the captain selected?
That's a couple of weeks earlier than last season, but all one day games look almost certain I think. Still a fair bit of water to pass under the bridge before we can start though (or perhaps vaccines into people's arms).
Ignoring what might happen with Covid, I suspect splitting the 3rds and 4ths may be due to expanding the comp. The two extra matches will require the 1sts and 2nds playing more often on Sundays. They might not want the 3rds and 4ths to do that. Just a thought...
... and pretty dominant for the whole season. I think they were on top after almost every round. They had a few narrow wins, which some might call lucky, but when you win three or four games in close finishes (which included the first GF) perhaps it is ability to handle the pressure of a close...

What's the story with the Championship GF? I thought it was to be best of three, but there is no mention of the second game on My Cricket. I understand it was likely to be a washout, with game 3 next Saturday. But currently My Cricket has Saturday's result - a narrow win to South Caulfield, and...
I imagine the reason there was just one umpire from Div 1 down was so that all the semi finals were played with an umpire. I guess that just shows the shortage of umpires in the CSB.
