I guess a good start would be to look at the kind of training that sprinters use? Though you may not be naturally quick Im sure you can improve on what you do have.

Rollers tend to be pretty hefty but you'd be surprised in how easily they seem to go walkabouts. You'd need to chain it to something but if they can't get a car/van over there then you may get away with it.
Best ODI side?
If England win today then they will be ranked no.2 in the world in terms of one day sides. I find this hard to believe but then tables are tables.
Any way are Australia still the best one day or is it England/South Africa/India? Also, just how big is the gap between sides...

Having him talk to older and more experienced captains is the best way. Get him to watch some good quality cricket and see if he can spot what the captain is doing and why.
Might be worth reading the Mike Brealy book as well - the art of captaincy.

Used to do this a few years ago, it's a pretty good session and makes a change from just netting or working on fielding etc.
